Thanks. tom erikbojerik 12-05-2007, 09:17 AM Depends on scale length and string spacing at the nut. Give me those and I can crank out the spacing at #24. wilser 12-05-2007, 09:27 AM Use fretfind to generate a drawing ...I've never measured spacing anywhere in the middle of the neck ...just use the diagram and f'gettabahtet. tjclem 12-05-2007, 09:53 AM neck width at the nut is 49mm I use the nut gauge from stewmac so the spacing varies. 34.5 scale. Thanks Gone 12-05-2007, 12:13 PM string separation at 24th fret = string separation at nut + three quarters of the difference between the string separation of the bridge and the nut You need to know the string separation at the nut. Assuming 12.25 mm (49/4) : 12.25 + (17-12.25)*3/4 = 15.813mm hence the neck width would be 15.813*4 + 2*overhang so with a overhang of 2.5 mm either side width: ~68.3mm Does that sound right? You don't need to know the scale length... tjclem 12-05-2007, 01:14 PM Thanks Warwick uses 69mm so that sure is close..Tom Kalango 12-06-2007, 01:46 PM string separation at 24th fret = string separation at nut + three quarters of the difference between the string separation of the bridge and the nut You need to know the string separation at the nut. You don't need to know the scale length... I think you neglected the overhang @ nut here... Edit: I also think a 2.5mm overhang is a little narrow. A 0.125" B string has a 3.125mm diameter, so you'd have a little less than 1mm from the edge of the string to the edge of the fingerboard. Gone 12-06-2007, 02:56 PM You're right on both counts but it was meant as a how to work it out rather than this is the width of the neck at the 24th fret... tjclem 12-06-2007, 03:25 PM Just FYI the customer is stringing it E-C |
