Hello, noob to the forum here...

I have an L1000 that I purchased used years ago; it was pretty beat up, so I took it apart to refinish it. The problem is, I misplaced the tuners a long time ago and now I'm having problems finding replacements. I don't want to spend too much mainly because this is a project bass, so they don't have to be the original type, which leads to my question: Would standard P or J Fender tuners work? I wouldn't mind redrilling the holes for the mounting screws, but it's the peg diameter I am worried about...

Thanks in advance!

there are schaller direct replacements available, just the same but with schaller written on them instead of g&l, in fact many of my g&l's have schaller enscribed on the machine heads, also the screw holes line up, there is a set on da bay for 40 bucks i believe.

As Nigel said the early ones had Schaller stamped on them. I have replaced many Schallers with the G&L stamped mainly for the tapered aluminum posts.

Conatact Matt at guitarman in NYC to see about obtaining some.

Also for a time G&L was using Hipshots.

Thanks for the replies; I have heard a lot about the Hipshots, but for right now I just need to get some cheap ones to throw on so I can put strings on it to test it out (the frets were removed at one point and put back in a little sloppy). :)
