thanks for all of the compliments/criticism guys. to address the distortion/dynamics issue, a lot of that has to do with the fact that, because of our meager paychecks, we had to record in my basement (once instrument at a time, yes i know, blasphemy) and its a lot harder to nail it that way. also, in my fruitless effort to make it "louder," in the mix, i hit "0" on a fairly regular basis. thanks again for the kind and constructive words!

I actually like your tone and overall sound of the band, it just didnt mesh very well. For the most part it seems to be the guitar thats all over the place. Maybe turn up a little and/or have your guitarist turn down, hes really overbearing.

Songs aren't bad. There's just something not quite right. I think that some of the individual instrument parts don't link together quite well in places. They aren't quite supportive of each other.

I'd look into getting a singer...

Another thing that is very useful in making not so good demo's is good timing> get the drummer to play with a metronome or something. But on a positive side your playing is great.

IMO,
EQ/compress/limit/fx to your taste.

EQ/comp/limit the drums and bass to make them thicker in the mix.
EQ/comp/limit/fx or whatever you have to do to get that guitar track to blend with the newly EQed bass and drum.
EQ/comp/limit/fx the vocals into the mix.
Mix down.
EQ/comp the first mixdown to create the master.

The mix sounds ok but there needs to be some separation and placement of each part in the sound spectrum. Experiment. You can turn those tracks into a totally different finished product with some serious time behind the controls.

Keep the creative juices flowing. It sounds good.

Thanks for the tips guys! I'm actually going to school now for audio engineering, so as my knowledge of the subject grows, hopefully it will be reflected in my mixing/mastering ability (that's the plan, anyway).

I've taken some of your collective advice, remixed the tracks and put the new mixes on the myspace page. Unfortunately you can only put compressed audio files on myspace so that kind of sucks, but I think they're already sounding better.
