Thanks. The G&L sold me for a few reasons. First, I have a strong bias toward humbucking pickups. Single coils are way too noisy for me and I don't think a bass really needs that single-coil sharpness. Second, I needed a bass with a pickup in the "P" zone, because I have really fallen in love with that sound. Third, I needed something with at least a passive option. Fourth, I needed a versatile bass that could do either modern sounds or classic sounds, so I can do lots of different jobs with it.

I considered getting a Fender P, and the price point was great, but I have had problems with Fender construction in the past and I can't be relying on a bass with a weak neck joint as my main machine. The G&L neck joint is considerably more solid. I also wanted an American-made bass because I want to try to contribute to luthiers in my own country. I heard about the G&Ls from a few people, but when I saw the fanatics on TB I figured I at least had to try one out for myself. I tried out a Trib in a music store that sounded great, and I ended up playing a friend's L2500 for a little bit and I really fell in love with it.

My new bass is sickeningly good. When it arrived at the music shop, the proprietors kept telling me "man, you have to get here and play this thing, it's incredible" and they weren't lying. I've never had pickups this hot in my life, and an onboard EQ that's actually useful.

Yeah, those pickups are what sold me on G&L's!!!! I've never heard something so hot, even in passive mode. Almost too much (but not quite :) )

Yeah, I really have to roll off the bass knob. :)

Give it time, break it in & you will never want to part with it. They get a lot better with age.
