phatbass30 02-05-2008, 07:54 AM I applaud your ability to continue to fit more stuff on that board.
thanks man, it takes a lot of sleepless nights! even in my dreams i'm planning my set up! lol! well, i might change my wireless system to X2, it means i will have one more space for one pedal! lol!

Really nice, clean set up. What's your reason for using two separate loopers/blenders? Just needed to add more loops and didn't want to buy one big one?
Everyone uses the Les Paul/Strat analogy with the Vox and the Crybaby. That works for me. It's definitely a classic, vintage sound (despite the fact that it's brand new), as opposed to the Morley, which has a harsh, modern sound (harsh in a good way).
Does it loose much bottom end?
andvari7 02-05-2008, 10:49 AM It's not as bad as everyone says, but it is noticeable. I like it, but that's probably because it's what I grew up with.

well i actually got the loop-master first. then i decided to get a blender. i like the looper and i don't wanna get rid of it. so i made some plans on how to chain my pedals using the looper to the blender. it's actually very useful. my blender is always on, then i use the looper to choose the effects that i wanna use. plus the looper has a bypass and tuner out, i basically use the blender just to blend and the looper does all the job.

did you honestly think you could get away Scott-free without telling us your signal path? HOW DARE YOU, well lets have it man - i wanna know how you use the blender and looper together, and dont go pullin some timmy c stuff haha

sadowsky MS5 to samson wireless to:
bottom feeder to VFB "IN"
looper "IN" to VFB "SEND"
looper "OUT" to VFB "RETURN"
looper 1- micro pog
looper 2- turbo rat
looper 3- chorus
VFB "OUT" to compulator(always on), bassdrive then mxr-80
tuner to looper tuner out.
basically i just used the looper instead of patch cables. made my life so much easier, i don't need to stomp on the individual pedals. plus i could bypass all of them with a single stomp from the master bypass of the looper, i mean just the effects included in the looper. but the bottom feeder, i did it straight from the wireless to get the direct signal from my bass, you know filters, very sensitive. and i stomp on my bassdrive every now and then, depends on the music. my blender is always on, i use it plainly as a blender, not a bypasss switch. there it is, just simple set up. not as complicated as it looks. hope it helped.:)
tumpinjahosafat 02-05-2008, 05:40 PM took me about 5 minutes to understand the set up, but now that i get it...Man thats sick! how much of the blend do you use? I'm assuming you keep the blend nob consistent?
OhThePeacock 02-05-2008, 05:57 PM Hey Tumpin what cables are those?
phatbass30 02-05-2008, 07:14 PM my blend knob is around 10:30 to 11 o'clock, so its about 60-70% dry. it sounds perfect for my all my effects. but i based it more on rat-pog sound, i like to have a sound like there's a distorted guitar underneath my bass during my guitar player's solo.
and those are George L's cables.
redstrand 02-05-2008, 07:28 PM Those are George L's on Thumpins board...great stuff!

How useful is it to have both the Turbo RAT and the Bassdrive? With the boost maxed on the bassdrive, is it similar to the RAT? How do you justify having both?
Chronicle 02-05-2008, 10:07 PM NYC Board will be here tomorrow.
phatbass30 02-06-2008, 03:08 AM How useful is it to have both the Turbo RAT and the Bassdrive? With the boost maxed on the bassdrive, is it similar to the RAT? How do you justify having both?
i use the comp-cut of the bassdrive, its like a clean boost with a bit of grit when we play rock songs. i use the turbo rat for strong distortion needs, but blended by VFB. i think the distortion of rat is stronger compare to the bassdrive which is just an overdrive, IMHO.
i love them both!
phatbass30 02-06-2008, 03:20 AM last night on my way home from a gig, i had an arguement with the taxi driver. due to the tension of the situation, i accidentally forgot my bag. inside the bag are my passport, work permit, dc brick adapter, wireless transmitter and wireless adapter. so without the transmitter, my wireless system is useless! plus i have to buy an adapter for my dc brick or i won't be using my pedalboard tonight at the gig! damn! so i re-arranged my board again. i removed the wireless receiver and add in a boss bass EQ. such a shame i've been using that wireless for 7 years now.

BassmanDk 02-06-2008, 07:24 AM PhatBass30, is there no chance of getting your stuff back? I don't know how it works "overthere" but here in Denmark i would call the TaxiStation and ask if there have the bag or/and which Taxi that drove me that night. There have GPS in all the cars so if you say where and when they can tell you which cabs were nearby. Maybe you could get it all back...

thanks for the concern. unfortunately there are lots of taxi operators here in bangkok, and i have no idea which one we got on that night. i'm not from thailand by the way so i don't understand what they say. so far, all i can do is hope and wait that maybe my stuffs will come up in my embassy. i got 15 days to wait before they issue me a new passport. i played my gig tonight, i really miss my wireless. i'm not use to playing with a cable. i guess i have to wait for a while to get a new wireless system since i spend a lot of money with my pedalboard. thanks again!
irvinz 02-06-2008, 03:02 PM so where are you from phatbass? thailand... trying to get your stuff back? get on your knees and pray bro. no other way would it come back to you. i would know. i was kidnapped in thailand once. all they want me to do was to use their hooker service... which i firmly declined, ended up having to pay them a huge fare to take me back to where i was teaching

oh boo, how i long to see thy board:)
in a month or so, my board should be finished and be ready to be viewed in this here thread. look out pedal nerds.....well not really, there's a lot of nice boards in this thread.
jucas 02-07-2008, 02:18 AM I dunno... I always liked boo's board for its small, efficient and classy selections. If it weren't for that morley there's be plenty of room for more on there!
Either way, can't wait to see what the upgrade turns out to be.
And, I have a thing or two on the way (and not enough on the way out :( ) so once I get the pedal I'll get a group photo up... and hopefully around the time the anglers are on their way out I'll actually have a board to put them on! Only took like 5 of the 7 treads to get there.

kaputsport 02-09-2008, 09:52 AM So here it is... Signal chain and arrangment are still pending, as I have to align it all, add power, my wireless, and a few other pedals...
Akai SB-1 Deep Impact
Akai P1 Intelliphase
EHX Bassballs (russian)
MXR Blowtorch (12v mod)
EHX Little Big Muff
Boss BF-2 Flanger
Boss OC-2 Octave
Missing from the board:
BYOC Russian "Green" Big Muff
Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal Pedal
Peterson Strobe Stomp
Shure Wireless Reciever (Going under the pedals)
Power (OneSpot, and other power supplies)
I am also going to mod the board, so instead of having to have cables plugged in and lumped over the edge, I will have a power in and signal out on the side of the board... Take off the top, plug in signal to amp, and plug in power... Then Play.
eyvindwa 02-09-2008, 09:57 AM MXR Blowtorch (12 mod)
12 mod?
kaputsport 02-09-2008, 10:14 AM Fixed... 12v mod... I power mine with 12v instead of 18...
Super synthy fuzz (woolly mammoth style)
eyvindwa 02-09-2008, 10:17 AM Really, do you need a mod for that? Couldn't you just plug a 12V adapter in and be happy?
Really, do you need a mod for that? Couldn't you just plug a 12V adapter in and be happy?
Tried one today and loved it, so I hope it'll work on 12V, since that's the most my Fuel Tank can put out.
kaputsport 02-09-2008, 11:08 AM Yea, but I listed it as I am using the 12v adapter, instead of 18v, so anyone looking at my board has a better understanding of what I am using and how.

Alfie 02-10-2008, 01:02 PM Alfie - nice board, how do you like the serano picoso boost? is it completely transparent?
I am very fond of it, it is probably my most used effect. On it's own, while the boost is not huge, I find that it really fattens up my low end sound. It is very clean, the only hint of distortion comes if it pushes the amp into clipping, not from the pedal itself. Combined with a semi hollowbody it booms!
I also use it to boost the signal going into the Fatman so that the oscillator doesn't take over.
OhThePeacock 02-10-2008, 01:05 PM What's that green one at the top left. All I can read is "Alfie's" did you build it?
Alfie 02-10-2008, 01:14 PM It says "Alfie's Green Ringer"- the ringer is on the side. It was a BYOC kit- the Armstong Twin- which is a combination of the Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer (compression) and Green Ringer (ring modulation". It makes some crazy noises. I laid the paint on a bit thick so I will probably redo it a some point.

Just kiddin'
BassmanDk 02-10-2008, 03:51 PM Ok here's my old board. I'm about to do something drastically to it. Like adding a Valvulator and some kind of Autowah (bought a Qtron but i dunno yet) and maybe a looper for all the pedals.
But it played it like this for 2 or 3 years
bass->Octabass->PSM5(used as a looper for the Korg G5)->TC Chorus/Flanger->Amp
http://i27.tinypic.com/14ttnt.jpg
bigchiefbc 02-10-2008, 04:09 PM Bigchiefbc - how is the ph-3?
Honestly, I love the PH-3. I'm not going to say that its the best phaser in the world, but I think its underrated. I don't really use the 8 and 12 stage modes at all, but I like the basic 4-stage a lot, and the rise/fall and step modes are awesome.
I actually recorded a song last fall that featured my bass playing through the Mistress in filter matrix mode, into the PH-3 doing the step phaser, into a delay, and it was such a cool sound, that we made a song around it. If you want to hear it, check out the track "Arglou" on our myspace page, the sound comes in at 1:24:

:) Yeah, that would be an interesting experiment, wouldn't it? Have the audience tweak your FX while you're playing. You'd get some interesting sounds I would think
But yeah, I feel like the BMS sucks some tone in bypass, so I had to rearrange things to put it through the PSM-5's loop.

By the way, in case anyone is interested, the signal chain is bass -> EHX Mini Q-Tron -> Boss PSM-5 with EHX Bass Micro Synth in the loop -> Mid-Fi Glitch Computer -> EHX Stereo Electric Mistress -> Boss PH-3 -> Devi Ever Aenima -> Devi Ever BIT -> Behringer BDI-21
bigchiefbc 02-10-2008, 04:18 PM have you tried any other phasers to compare?
I've only tried an MXR Phase 90 and the EHX Small Stone, and I found the PH-3 to be the deepest of all of them, as well as having multiple useful modes. However, I haven't really tried any boutique phasers. And I have been GASing for a Stereo Polyphase lately
cathal 02-10-2008, 04:49 PM bigchiefbc how do you find the mid-fi glitch computer, it sounds way to messed up/gnarly to work on bass?
bigchiefbc 02-10-2008, 05:00 PM bigchiefbc how do you find the mid-fi glitch computer, it sounds way to messed up/gnarly to work on bass?
I've actually been planning on doing a full review of this at some point, but here goes:
1. Hand's down, the craziest, most ridiculous effect I have ever used. It is almost impossible to get the same sound twice, and you have absolutely no idea what it is about to do when you strike a note.
2. Not usable at all in a standard band format. However, for noisecore/glitch groups, and for IDM-type electronic music, it is awesome.
The standard reaction from listeners when I turn it on is "What the F$% was that?!!?"
EDIT: I realized I didn't quite answer your question. As for how it works on bass, it depends on how you have it set up. When the tracking knob is all the way up, you have to stay up on the D and G strings because the main part of the effect is an arpeggiating two octaves down fuzz. When the tracking knob is down, you can play anywhere on the bass, because it becomes more chaotic and jumps all over the place.

What sound do you try to achieve with it?

I love the SEM. Having chorus and flanger in one is really cool, and then the filter matrix mode is gravy.
I think it is a very warm and musical flanger and chorus. This is in contrast to their Boss equivalents, which I consider very "cold" sounding (not that that's bad, its all preference).
With my cover band, I keep the depth controls kinda low (usually not higher than noon) on both flanger and chorus. For my electronic group, I tend to crank the flanger depth and put it in filter matric mode, which gives it a very metallic, pinging sound.
BassmanDk 02-10-2008, 06:14 PM I feel like the BMS sucks some tone in bypass, so I had to rearrange things to put it through the PSM-5's loop.
Ok i have an old BMS( actually that would be a MS 'coz it's the nonbass version, sounds really good on bass though) and i think it's has a problemfree bypass.
The Korg G5 on the other hand...don't get me started. It's like a turned on fuzzpedal when it's bypassed. In on-mode it's part of its charm! So i'm using the PSM5 as a looper too.

It's an extension chord with the female end cut off and an electrical box wired up. It cost about 15 bucks to make and I'm hiding all the extra cable in there from the power all, and it's nice to have an extra plug at your feet....

so far so good..... I a/b'd it in pro-tools to the countryman i was using and they are pretty close. the country man beat it, but not by much, i'd give it a 7 out of 10.

I just want to say, that you have a gift my friend. Haha, thats some talent, time, and ocd to pop that many pedals on there, and keep adding them. Wheres the X2 gonna go? on top of the brick? I think on top of the brick would be great so it gets it a little higher for better reception. Good luck though!

Call me crazy, but I think you could get 2 more small pedals in there. If you move your compulator between your chorus and turbo rat (move the rat and all other pedals on that row to the right a little) Then you can pop a pedal where your compulator was, and i think theres room between your eq and power supply for another pedal :) It really is endless!

yes, the Serrano Picoso boost (good to always have) and the Semaphore Tremolo. Check em out at http://tonefactor.com/products.php?cat=17

OhThePeacock 02-12-2008, 09:49 AM The Semaphore is wider than the other Catalinbread pedals so it wouldn't fit on there.

Its pretty cool. For instance its got A/B/Bypass, A/B Blend, A/B - i use the three of these alot. Like some some of my lines i want the fulltone overdrive with my DOD flanger so i set it to mix first then just stomp the fulltone and dod on, then the LS-2 when i want to use the effect.
Then on other songs, like this one in particular which is really frigin helpful for me, i use the distortion the whole song and at the end i use the line6, with a preset that is set to full repeats and its just kinda like madness that i use to segway in between our 2 songs, but i cant turn it off because the repeats are maxed, so bypassing the loop helps me to get into the next song clean
bassman314 02-13-2008, 09:10 PM How do you like the Nano Q? I found it pretty hard to get a usable sound...
yeah, it's not nearly as lush as I would like. I actually was selling it prior to my gear getting stolen, or else I wouldn't have it on the board. It works for short term until I can get a Micro Q-tron.
I can get some sweet pops out of it if I stick it in guitar mode and thump the strings pretty hard *L*

I use DigiVerb in spring mode, you can actually hear the splashing strings, great for dubby sounds.
The WahOne is the best wah I ever played and it's reasonably priced here in Europe.

yes yes it is like a disease, or addiction
but it does produce results, the challenge usually is separating the building or thinking about it from the playing and using it for creative means / producing
requires discipline, but those are some of the things I learnt for myself in Berlin, software designers suffer from the same problem, how to separate creating monstrous synthesizers through combining different modules or just using the bloody thing to make a tune....

i really liked the turbo, but i need some kind of a fuzz. i can't give up the bassdrive for the turbo, so i parted ways with my turbo 2 days ago after getting the blowtorch. so now i use the bassdrive for my distortion needs, and i also realized that the distortion on bassdrive would be enough for me, i just needed a good fuzz. i heard lots of praises for the blowtorch so i went out and tried them. so far i like it. :)

Could your rat get fuzzy, or was it pretty much a distortion.
phatbass30 02-16-2008, 03:21 PM Could your rat get fuzzy, or was it pretty much a distortion.
oh yeah it could get fuzzy at hi gain settings, i mix it with VFB so i still get a nice low end. but i was looking for some synthy fuzz, and i think the blowtorch does the job well. nice of you to remember my board man. thanks for that!

How could I not remember it, very clean board with astounding pedal choices. I'm considering getting the turbo rat for a gritty high gain distortion, not a fuzz as I already have a little big muff. Do you think it works good for that purpose?

Yeah the RAT should do it fine but you'll lose some low end.

if you have a VFB, that'll do the trick. and believe me man, the sound you will get for that is really big, gritty and mean! i love it but i needed a synthy fuzz kind of thing so i sold it.

Signal flow:
Bass -> Loop-Master A/B Box
(-> Tuner out -> Boss TU2)
(-> Loop -> Digitech Bass Whammy -> Ibanez WD-7)
-> EHX Micro POG -> Fulltone Bass-Drive -> Colorsound Tonebender -> Musitronics Mu-Tron III -> EHX BMS -> Loop-Master Micro Looper
(-> Loop -> Boss CEB-3 -> Boss BF-2 -> TC Electronics Classic TC XII)
-> Guyatone MD-3 -> T-Rex Squeezer -> Ernie Ball VP JR 25K
Disclaimer: No this is not a Justin board!
I bought the Tonebender because I got to try one while in studio last summer it was just huuuuuge.
The BF-2 I got for cheap, and well I like it.
The Bass Whammy... well ok this one is maybe a little bit Tool-influenced :p
Dude, when you have to put a disclaimer saying that your board is not a Justin board, then it's a Justin board. ;)

I considered the AF9 before I bought the Qtron and it looks like they have almost identical controls, although the Q tron might have more headroom due to the boost feature.
I also discovered that I can make the Q self oscillate with a hot bass and that running my SR's piezo signal through it introduces a lag between playing a note and getting a sound. Kinda like a chorusy warble.:smug:

Limlam 02-18-2008, 08:40 PM I picked it up on ebay a while back, got it for a good price as the dude spelt maestro wrong and i stumbled across it
pedrodelawasp 02-19-2008, 07:32 AM When funds permit I'll be making changes and expanding my set-up. There's a thumbnail of a diagram of my signal path at the bottom of this post. Normally the eq and super overdrive are left on all the time and i use the line selector to either blend my clean and overdriven sounds or switch between the two. The multi-effect is great for it's easy to use compressor, noise reduction (there's a dial at the back) and most of the effects are pretty useable and don't take away from the natural tone of my bass. Let me know what you think.:bassist:
I've retired the super overdrive to my guitar/keyboard fx-board (although i often run that through the bass fx too!).
Have replaced a fried diode in an old ibanez Phat Head and use that set to 'clean', with the overtone set to 2. Use that for a bright, gritty but not too fuzzy tone. Also allows for great sounding feedback with the semi hollow bass.
Nasnederis 02-19-2008, 10:10 AM Hi guys. This is my pedalboard that is constantly changing because I play both guitar and bass. On bass the pedals that I use the most are the DD3, Dod Flanger, Heavy metal boss, big muff and equalizer. My favorite ones so far are the dod flanger, wich is incredible, and the heavy metal boss, wich has tons of lows. The wah is the crybaby original. I need to buy the bass wah, maybe the weeping demon and the whammy.:). GAS GAS GAS GAS. :help:

does your tuner out from looper still mutes when you step on it since your looper is connected to the VFB? i had that set up before but the tuner doesn't mute. if it does mute, how did you do it?

It looks like he isn't even running a cable out of the tuner, so I would think that when he steps on the tuner loop, it kills the signal.
Mingus Addict 02-19-2008, 11:53 AM does your tuner out from looper still mutes when you step on it since your looper is connected to the VFB? i had that set up before but the tuner doesn't mute. if it does mute, how did you do it?
Do you mean that it wasn't going completely silent because the VFB was blending a clean signal with the muted tuner in the effects loop?:eyebrow:
Lebowsky 02-19-2008, 12:20 PM his tuner out is on the loooper, not the vfb
Mingus Addict 02-19-2008, 12:40 PM his tuner out is on the loooper, not the vfb
Yeah I understand that but the entire loooper is in the effects loop of the VFB correct? Therefore anything connected to the loooper would be in the effects loop of the VFB.
MysticBoo 02-19-2008, 12:45 PM AFAICT, it's not doing a full mute.
syc, your arrangement gives me a headache. :p
syciprider 02-19-2008, 12:59 PM Since the VFB sends a signal to the loooper and to the amp directly then the Loooper's tuner mute only kills the effects side so I still get a (fainter) signal when I stomp the tuner loop.
I only put the tuner there for convenience. When I am playing live I run the PW tuner from the volume pedal tuner out.
Boo: That's the price for having a bunch of EHX pedals with lousy bypass :hmm: It will get worse once the Moogerfooger LPF gets here :crying: I will need a 4 loooper and a bigger board :bawl:
Lebowsky 02-19-2008, 01:51 PM just rewire the EHX pedals :)
sorry Mingus, I didn't read the chain before answering :p

that's what i thought. cos that's what happened to me, we have the same set up, i run the looper to the VFB. and it never mutes when you step on the tuner. so now i connected the tuner first in my chain, not on the looper tuner out.
beggar98 02-19-2008, 11:16 PM Here's my work in progress. Next up will be my Flipster, which will hopefully be done in a couple weeks, and then a compressor, though I'm still researching which one. beggar98 02-20-2008, 11:34 AM How are those Hosa patch cables in terms of quality and noise level?
I haven't noticed any horrible side effects from the Hosa cables, but I'm only playing through headphones right now. If there's any noticeable negatives when I get my rig on Friday, I'll let you know. Quality-wise, they seem pretty solid.
Eventually they'll be changed out for a George L's kit, but not until I get a board and power supply.

Nah, I just forget to sign on. :hmm:
Ian Perge 02-20-2008, 06:54 PM Man, reading through all 47 pages/936 posts of this thread has made me realize that a) it's been at least 3 *years* since I've posted a picture of my 'board when the average change and update seems to be twice a week ;) ), b) that in those 3 years the quality of layouts and wiring have increased dramatically (the logical layout and wired board used to be the exception, not the rule), and c) I need to ask a few questions in case I need to change my layout before I finish attaching 3M Dual-Lock (I prefer it greatly to the standard Velcro, even though it costs more per yard than me :smug: ) and running cables this week for a move-and-re-arraignment from a Pedaltrain Jr. to PT-2:
First, my tentative layout and "anomalies" that I have to deal with/work around:
Aphex Punch Factory > E-H Micro POG > Xotic Bass RC Booster > Xotic Bass BB Preamp > Tech-21 XXL Edition > DigiTech DigiDelay > DigiTech Bass Multi Chorus > Dunlop GCB80 High Gain Volume Pedal > DigiTech JamMan (in preamp effects loop) > Korg DT-10 (in SWR "Tuner Out" >SWR Mini Mo' preamp running Overdrive/Distortion > SubWave (Octaver) > Bassynth > Mo' EQ ("extra" shelving EQ as opposed to preamp section's semi-parametric) > Chorus > Effects Loop (DigiTech JamMan) > Run into "Clean" pre-SWR Effects and "Dirty" post-SWR Effects... although now running much more Front-Of-Preamp I'm considering ditching the Clean/Dirty Dual Mono setup unless I pick up a Blender for the External effects.
Some questions I'd love to hear answers/opinions about:
I'm considering picking up a small-to-medium Looper to take some of the "lesser bypass"" (DigiTech, Micro POG) pedals for two reasons: to take them out of the order, as well as Accessibility Issues - I'm a person with a disability, specific balance as a major issue, and standing on one foot and "reaching over" to trigger pedals in the rear isn't the easiest: I'm thinking this would move most if not all of the "rear-tier" pedals to be triggered much easier from the front.
Now that Loooper is out of the game, is Loop-Master the only builder in town or (at least the only I've read about) or can someone recommend another supplier? Quality is the top-desire: I can wait for build time or large costs.
Due to having "Two sets" of effects, the Front-Of-Preamp and then the Mo's built-in, which I love (but like a true Effects Forum player, I crave more! :D ) I have a problem "unifying" both to run through the JamMan for recording and playback. The only way that comes to mind is to have the Mo's effects to run that through the Effects Loop, post-Mo' Effects. Any other possibilities come to mind? I know from reading this whole thing that I'm not the only person running three Overdrive/Distortion/Fuzzes, but in my case they all have pretty specific applications: the Xotic BB is my grindy "AIC's Would?" light overdrive/distortion, the XXL my near-breakup "Industrial" Distortion", and the Mini Mo's Overdrive my "Lead" sound. If my woman's going to have 21 pairs of shoes - I just counted - 3 OD/DS boxes doesn't seem outrageous to me... ;)
I realize I've duplicated a good deal of the Mo's effects on the 'Board, but that's a choice I made for two reasons: to have them available if I sub/record/play with someone else's rig and still have most if not all of the effects I'm used to using, and to be able to do so while just bringing the board and not my rack.
Am I absolutely crazy to be searching for a Korg DT-10RW (http://blog.so-net.ne.jp/_images/blog/godiac13/2048989.jpg) in the teal or black stains when I have a perfectly good first gen DT-10 sitting right here? The bling calls to me! :D

That's Dunlop 105Q -> Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Classic Fuzz -> Z. Vex Box of Rock -> Boss DD-3 Delay
The Hendrix Classic Fuzz is an awesome high gain fuzz that works well with bass (in my opinion) for searing ridiculous sustaining leads. It has completely replaced my Big Muff for that function. The Z. Vex Box of Rock I was able to play with it some more and if you're willing to sacrifice some highs on the tone knob (which I am) I find it can retain the bass beautifully and is not only the best overdrive I have ever tried (and there have been thousands of dollars of them, what I've posted about here is just the tip of the iceberg) but the best pedal I've ever owned. For the first time ever I think I am done with my overdrive quest, this one is the tone I've been looking for. I'll try to do some clips eventually.

Il try get a clip up soon, i dont really have a way of getting a good quality clip up right now, its an amazing pedal though works really well with the Malekko to get an awesome doom type sound. I think its just a super fuzz with a blend knob. It has two types of fuzz which are switchable first one is pretty much like a regular fuzz tone and the other is more intense.

Chronicle 02-21-2008, 04:25 PM Actually I'm gonna say i use the Barge more than the Tremolo. Plus, it's right by the Bass whammy for RIT :P
The humdebugger is working great for me. I don't notice any super change to my tone... It totally kills the hum from my bass. It makes another sound but it's very subtle and you can barely hear it, unlike the buzzing from a passive bass.

bass-shy 02-21-2008, 09:27 PM Bass-shy you probably get told this all the time but I love the look of your board!
Thanks, man. I feel like it turned out pretty well, but I'm always wondering to myself: "What else do I want/need/have to find space for to make it better?" :D
It's a never ending process I suppose. :hmm:
Cheers!

Agreed, that Hendrix Classic fuzz has got some serious balls. It especially sounds great going into an overdrive pedal.
Here's my board. I was holding out for the next thread but what heck.

Ryan Mohr 02-21-2008, 09:50 PM Well, I didn't make as many changes as I planned to, but here it is for now. Everything is really the same except for the addition of the DM-2. I'll eventually buy a bigger board so I can keep my 535Q on there, too.
How do you use the BDDI, XXL, and Mudhoney? Is it BDDI for overdrive, XXL for distortion (how is that for distortion if I may ask), and Mudhoney for fuzz?
beyondhairy 02-22-2008, 01:16 AM an update :)

Swift713 02-22-2008, 09:35 AM I wish Ibanez made that in a fretless 5 string. Very nice basses.

rundown of what is happening here
Tuner > Moog Freqbox (w EP-2 controling Frequency control) > Moog Low Pass Filter > Death By Audio Interstellar Bass Overdriver > Effector 13 Torn's Peaker > Moog Analog Delay > Amp
The Moog MuRF is in the loop of the Analog delay which makes some amazing noises.
The Moog CP-251 is controlling the Delay Time and Feedback with the Pigtronix Expression pedal via the four-way multiple jack. It is also controlling the Cutoff on the Moog Low Pass Filter with a triangle wave LFO going into the LAG processor sent into an attenuator. The LFO rate is controlled by the second EP-2. I currently switch between the LFO/LAG setup and a Sample and hold patch (I plan on getting a loop-master micro A/B to be able to switch the setting on the fly)
Also thinking of getting another micro A/B to be able to switch between my bass and the noise outputter on the CP-251 into the freqbox.
I'm also thinking I will need to pick up the Moog MP-201 Multi pedal when it comes out in April. I imagine I could come up with even more amazing sounds with more expression control than I already have.
Questions? Concerns?
Oh yeah if I get some time I'll record some sound clips of some of the moogerfoogers doing what they do best for your listening pleasure.

Yeah I know, but the guitar center I get hooked up at got in that MuRF and the Freqbox one day and I was too estatic about buying both to care that much.
And in complete honesty the regular MuRF has plenty of bass to it, considering I tune at F in bongripper, my equipment needs to be able to handle low notes, which they all most certainly do.
flakeh 02-22-2008, 03:47 PM My small contribution here. I am currently awaiting on a MXR M-80+ and a Blender (JrVFB), and maybe a whammy and proco rat...and a bigger board.

Not surprising. It's my understanding that the difference isn't in low end handling, but the filters' center frequencies and the selectable patterns.
But still... :p

I use the Freqbox for one sound in conjunction with the Torn's Peaker. But the one sound I do with it is incredible. I get compliments on it whenever we play.

Is that Kerry King EQ any different from the standard 10 band other than the appearance of course? Is the CS-2 always on?

The kerry king has two outputs, thats the only difference. I usually have the CS-2 on. I will turn it off when I need more of a growly sound.

can I ask you something?
what do you mean by "controlling"?
is it randomly changing the setting?
what does it actually do?
I just don't understand the functions of the 251...
bass-shy 02-22-2008, 05:23 PM How do you use the BDDI, XXL, and Mudhoney? Is it BDDI for overdrive, XXL for distortion (how is that for distortion if I may ask), and Mudhoney for fuzz?
Yeah, mostly. I typically keep the BDDI set to sound clean, but with a little thicker tone than I get from my bass and amp alone. The XXL, (which is killer, IMHO) I use for OD and distortion, depending on my bass' volume knob and how hard I hit the strings. It is a very dynamic pedal. The Mudhoney is set for full-on fuzz. I keep the Gain and Tone controls maxxed out on it. I very rarely use either the XXL or Mudhoney without the BDDI. The combination of those pedals gives me a tremendous range of usable tones and I keep finding new ones every time I step on them. The Mudhoney on it's own is definitely the most versatile dirtbox I have ever used. It does light OD tones just as well as it does nasty fuzz, IMO. The Boost button completely transforms the range of gain so you get a lot of different textures to play with.

is that the bass xxl or guitar version?
bass-shy 02-22-2008, 05:35 PM is that the bass xxl or guitar version?
It's the original version that was made in the 90's. Back then, they didn't make separate versions for bass and guitar. I imagine that it falls somewhere in between the new guitar and bass versions.
I haven't had any issues with low end suck, tone suck, volume suck or any other kind of suck with it. It most certainly doesn't suck even though it wasn't made specifically for bass players. :D

This is a sound that I'd like to hear! You can't expect to say something like that without request for clips! :)
XXL's a great pedal.
I agree 100%:D
I put said pedal through the effects loop of the Q-tron+. If i could post sound clips I would cuz u guys might enjoy this combo as much as I do.
Ryan Mohr 02-22-2008, 06:14 PM Bass player described the XXL as "all about x-tra nasty fuzz". From the clips I have heard, It seems like a gritty distortion similar to pedals like the Turbo Rat and the GT-2. Who is right here?

The XXL sounds very much like the "California" setting on the GT2, both of which sound pretty similar in tone to the Turbo Rat.
