I promise awesomeness for this thread at some point. I've got a few pedals already on the way to me (including a christmas gift or two). And after selling my current pedals and a bass, I'll be able to fund the last bits that wont be here by christmas. It will be awesome...

My board is almost finished, I'm just waiting on a looper and an OD pedal. I'm tempted to post pics of its current state, but not sure if I should wait until it's done!

I did have a Jet Phaser, (and wish I still had it!!!) but decided to sell it to FunkyAssBassMan, so I could finish the rest of my board.

Wow, have I seen this board before? Did I say how much I liked it then? I really like! Shows you can go bonkers without a ton of boutiquey skree. Not that boutiquey skree isn't great, it's what keeps us all coming back, but I'm just saying.

I hate that we can't swear on this board. Sometimes there's no substitute for the word, "****".

McHaven

Over Christmas I'm planning on picking up a chorus. I haven't decided which yet, but it's going to be whatever I can get the cheapest soonest. If that pedal doesn't work out, I'll move onto my next choice. I'm thinking Small Clone or Rocktron Tsunami/Deep Blue, but also have my eye on a Dano Cool Cat and a Boss CE-5.

I'm also going to build a board soon, so I can have a real setup. It really sucks that I'll have to decide what pedals to actually keep on there. Of course, it will be built with room for a couple more. ;)

So without pics, here's my current rundown

Bass -> Big Muff Pi -> Small Stone Phaser -> Morley Power Wah -> Boss RC-2 Looper -> Boss TU-2.

Only things I really see myself adding are chorus, an envelope filter...maybe a flange? Maybe some Moog. God, Pedal GAS is a disease! I don't even want a new bass anymore! :help:

very close mate :)

Bottom right is a custom A/B to send my signal to my DT-10 (debatting whether or not I NEED this as the DT-10 has a very good buffered bypass anyway... it does have a BIG pink LED though :P)
Next in the chain is an EBS Multicomp
Next is an Xotic X-Blender with a RogerMayer Voodoobass in the loop
Next in the chain is an Analogman Clonechorus with deep switch

Then I've got a T-rex Fuel Tank powering them (have had NO problems with it whatsoever, and it makes my Chorus sound very clean and even deeper with the 12V supply ;) )

I'll post the final board when it's done, which should be after all of this x-mas madness

Well coming from just using a simple Sabine tuner and an instrument cord for years ...

This "is" a BIG pedal board for me.

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k220/kennyallyn/PedalBoard-1.jpg

I designed the board many years ago when I played guitar and it fits into an aluminum camara case.

The "Double Voodoo" board is like having an SVT on call the Voodoo Lab power supply has a SAG function
that allows the voltage to be dropped to 4 volts (like a worn out battery)to the Roger Mayer Voodoo Bass pedal giving it a smooth overdrive sound when the gain is set to a minimal setting as seen in the picture. The chorus adds a small gain boost and more harmonic content for a little more aggressive sound. The compressor is set to "Tubesim" and gives the signal a glassy tube-like compression rather than a squashed flat signal. All of the interconnect cables are George Ls.

:smug: ... Simple but effective

Sweet!

The switch on the top of the pedal which is visible is the Fuzz on/bypass switch.

Underneath the treadle is another switch. In one mode the treadle acts as a volume pedal, push the toe all the way down with pressure and it activates the wah.

So it's a fuzz pedal, wah pedal, and volume pedal all rolled into one. It has 4 different wah stylings, and 3 knobs to control the fuzz as well as an octave switch.

It can be a straight volume pedal or it can be a volume pedal with fuzz on. It can be a straight wah pedal or it can be a wah pedal with fuzz on.

How do you like that Foxx wah. Does it kill much lowend?

I'm still deciding on whether I want to keep it for sure or not, but I'm leaning towards doing so. I had a Morley Power Wah before picking this up. I like the smoothness of the Morley treadle a lot more. The Foxx uses a sprocket system to move the treadle which feel a little rough at times. I like the versatility of styles available with the Foxx Wah. I don't like the Volume pedal portion though. I know Thom (vegas532) said he had his modded to bypass the volume function altogether, which I may consider at some point. I also don't like the placement of the wah switch.

The fuzz sounds great. It does kill a little low end, but that's why I've got the ToneBender. If you're looking for just fuzz, the ToneBender will always be my recommendation. However the Foxx has a pretty similar sound to the Bender with a little less low end.

I'll try to get some foxx fuzz clips up sooner or later.

And we all thought i was the Tool-Nut XD

I'm just more discreet about it :D I see your board has grown by leaps and bounds since I last talked to ya on AIM though. :bassist:

Re: Bassplayer 479

I dig the GT-6B----
in fact, the empty loop on the loop-master is for the one I own but generally leave at home for rehearsing in headphones.

I like the "strings" sounding patches (forget the original name)
also, the distortions are great, as well as the flange patches
(the 'anthony' patch---cool !)

I don't necessarily like the synth patches, or the sequencer bits (I play synth, so they aren't necessary for me)

A FANTASTIC board !!

12-13-2007, 08:56 PM
What's your experience with the GT-6B???

Likes?
Dislikes?

I like the fact that it has everything I need and then some. I dislike the fact that it has ridiculous effects that I'll never use or some effects like the synth that are really hard to config.

But it's a really nice board. I also like the fact that you can save like 80 user patches or something. The pedal provides a lot of user flexibility in the sounds and the format you have things set up. Sometimes it gets confusing and overwhelming, but it's not too bad once you figure stuff out. I think I have it down well enough that I can change some effects on the fly. I'm still trying to learn all the effects and what they do, though.

Since my Barge-O-FX-Boards have a lot of knob-twiddling ability, when I use my
GT-6B....I just use the presets.

I re-did the ORDER of them (on user-settings), so I know right where my favorite 10 are.

No matter what anyone says---the presets are flippin good !

the ibanez synth is basically an envelope filter with a distortion. Not in the sense of a bass balls, but IMO more useable. Definitely worth the money. People reject the SYB5 as a bit of a lemon, but with the expression pedal, it transforms it totally. With just the SYB and octoplus, i can get really close to the "deeper underground" synth sound.

yes the Tube EQ is an Eq......i just sold it today because it's too big and warm to me......i bought it in 2004 and love this pedal very much still. i love the big-warm tone this years until last week......but i want to a clearer tone and not very progressive now......

I have the X2 sitting on a block of foam to raise it above the aluminum lip of the board to improve reception.

The AB switch lets me switch between the multidrive/octabass effects and a clean with CAE boost channel. Parallel out from the Sansamp to back line and DI from Sansamp to FOH.

Yeah, the Mu-Tron is a great filter. It's pricey, but totally worth it IMO. If I couldn't get a Mu-Tron my next filter of choice would be the Maxon AF-9. Absolutely fantastic pedal if you can't justify the moolah that the original Mu-Tron's are going for nowadays.

Following signal path:

1. Peterson Strobostomp
2. Lehle P-Split passive signal splitter (sending 1 signal through the efx chain, and the other clean signal to #11)
3. Dunlop Bass Wah
4. EH Little Big Muff Pi
5. Boss Phase Shifter
6. Boss Flanger
7. Boss Chorus Ensemble
8. Line 6 Echo Park (I modded it to control the delay time with...)
8a. Boss expression pedal
9. Line 6 Verbzilla (running through...)
9a. Radial Big Shot Mixer (to split the signal, so I can bring the reverb in gradually via...)
9b. Boss volume pedal
10. Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2
11. I built this box basically as the inputs for my 2 heads (One clean, the other efx). It connects to my rig via a DB25 connector/cable.

I made my first one...then I realized that wood just doesnt stand up to constantly being moved around and stepped on, and I didnt have the tools/materials to make one out of metal, so I bought a pedaltrain.

If you're a weekend warrior and a bedroom jammer, save some money, have some fun, and make your own. If you go out and gig regularly where it will see wear and tear, I dont see how wood would stand up. IME and IMO.

I toured around 100,000 miles last year. All of my stuff was either on a military aircraft or a 24-foot truck, packed to the ceiling. The pedaltrain was a smart investment.

Yes that is true, but there is also the time factor. My day job is as a woodworker and this takes most of the fun out of doing projects on my own time, time I would rather spend playing music. I made all my own pedalboards in the past, but the next one [this will be soon too] will be a pedaltrain pro.

I managed to pick up a used one in really good condition and although I've not had much experience with different filters, I can say that this one sounds absolutely awesome - really thick and oozing with funk.
I see you are still loving the Hellbaby :)Yep :)
How do you find the Weeping Demon on bass? Is it good / bad / OK?Its good ;) It can be a bit picky with the distortions run before it (worked remarkably well with my Boss HM-2, but less so with the Mule...) but it is very versatile - you can get a fairly wide range of sounds out of it. The only other downside is its rather large footprint. And if you ever get your finger caught when you are switching it from normal to spring mode there is no pain like it :crying:

Compact economic and effective-
The Fretted Board:

Dunlop Classic Bass Wah > X Bass Squeeze > X Bass Synth Wah > X Bass Drive > Badder Monkey > X Bass Multi Chorus > DigiDelay

I'm in the process of building a new pedalboard, home-made based on those new Pedaltrain boards.

this is my current (work-in-progress) set up:

Schecter Studio-5 -> Boss ME-50B -> AW-3 -> Sovtek Big Muff Pi -> ODB-3 -> DS-1 -> DigiDelay -> SWR 350

http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v167/11/52/1820701/n1820701_34842046_9633.jpg

On the list to buy/add:
Dunlop Crybaby 105Q Bass Wah
Boss FV-500H Volume
Boss CEB-3 Bass Chorus
Boss TU-2 Tuner
Electro-Harmonix Little Big Muff
Electro-Harmonix Small Stone Nano

As I get these I'm gonna get rid of the multi-effect and the Sovtek Muff and ODB-3. I'll probably get a loop in there to take care of the bypass issues with, say, the Muff.

very close mate :)

I had everything but the voodoobass, I thought it was a fulltone bassdrive

I'm getting too good at this :/

I just did a quick test on my lunch break and I definitely liked the BF-2 better. As many said, it seemed fuller, more lush, less metallic overall I think. It seemed like the effect was more noticable, but less harsh. Then again, maybe it's just all in my head because TB has programmed me to think the BF-2 is superior. :p

I plan on doing an A/B at some point.

i noticed it was much less harsh and digital, but a lot more.. hell, flangey, goddamnit! like it's supposed to be. a lot less metallic. and the the manual knob is centred around mids it seems, which is nice.

Exactly my thoughts. The Flanging effect was much more pronounced, but in a smoother fuller way than with the BF-3.

I really like the Mudhoney...........especially with the SansAmp. It probably has the widest range of effect I've ever found in a dirt pedal. It goes from barely-there, slight OD to rippin' and snarlin' fuzz. I usually keep the Gain and Tone knobs cranked and keep the Boost button on. The construction is great, the bypass is great and the tone is exactly what I like. A littly spendy, though.

If only they made an envelope filter...................I'd be all over it! Everything Joel Weaver touches seems to turn to gold. Their customer service is second to none, as well.

I've been thinking of picking up either a Lorba Fuzz or U.F.O., and a Hematoma to really complete things.

Bass-Shy, im digging that red XXL. Did you paint it? or re-cover it with some form of red material?

Thanks for the props, Tomass. The finish on the XXL is red permanent marker. I have the original issue of the XXL, which was silver and swirly looking when I bought it. The pattern and the lettering are still visable through the red which is why it looks the way it does. Also, I didn't really intend to do the whole thing. I was only going to mark the knob settings with the red marker, but I liked the way it was looking so I did the whole thing.

After buying and selling a few pedals and changing band altogether, I came up with a new arrangement.
It's not all done yet, I need to tidy up cables and stuff but the basics are done.
http://pageperso.aol.fr/JAZZAD2/Images/Matos/pedalboard12-2007.jpg

As usual I run 2 parallel lines of effects managed by the Boss LS-2 and since I use active cabs, my preamp is on the pedalboard.
Compression and Looper (Headrush) come afterwards.
I used to have a SansAmp, now that I use a MicroBass II I have a clean blend for effects as a bonus.

How do you like the Pulsar?

I've been curious to other alternatives to the TR-2 and that was on that I had considered. I can't justify dropping almost 200 on a tremolo pedal like the Guyatone VTX or the EHX Wiggler, but the Pulsar piqued my interest as an alternative in a decent price range.

Very true. I guess if I was making a decent living with music (im just 17) I would definatly buy a 'pre made' pedalboard.

The only problem is that I wasn't pushing either when they blew. One was this summer. I was in a metal band that played all guerilla shows (100% of which were shut down by the poepoe btw :bassist:). Anyway, the Hartke head had a short in it (that or a heating issue), and one day at practice, it started to cut out as usual after some use. Only this time, it cut out for good, and in doing so, it caused a huge pop that blew out my speakers... Since we were doing shows, I had to use my "new bass" funds that I had been trying to save for 2 years... The Perfect Bass gave me a hell of a deal on an Eden WT-405 and some replacement speakers... I had to use all of my money, but in the end it cost less than just the 405 would have elsewhere. Then in October, I was practicing at bedroom level in my room... and out of nowhere this one explodes, catching fire. It was under warranty... but in the tradition of Eden it's taking at least 4 months to turnover. :(

Nowadays, I see everything that I buy as something that's going to break no matter what, so I'm not surprised when it does happen. Bah gear.

RE: Bassplayer 479 (and anyone who wants a trade secret tip...)

Cool you got the Boss !! Something in there for everyone to use.

Boss makes a carry-bag, but I recommend GOING DIRECTLY to a THRIFT STORE and look in their luggage section. (take some measurements of the pedal)
For 3 bucks you can get a custom soft leather-style carry-bag with pockets, or a hard-suitcase style.

Seriously---I go to the local Sacramento thrift stores and swoop on a handful of these 3- dollar luggage bags of different sizes and inclinations, just in case (no pun intended) I need to be mobile with my stuff.

Heck, when I got the luggage bag for my GT-6B, I even brought the board in to the store (showing it to the clerk on the way IN of course--explaining I was looking for a perfect fit)

AND--it took me two stores, but I got a perfect fit !

Some bags, I throw in a few 99-cent (thrift store bought of course) stuffed animal snakes, frogs, whales, or dolphins (depending on the needs). These help to protect the knobs better. (just don't get any with hard pieces, like eyes). small throw pillows work, too, if the pedals are a bit floppy in the bags.

Oh sorry I missed that. I enjoy the phaser. It was given to me by a guitar player friend of mine who obtained a GT-6 and didn't want it anymore. I don't have much experience with other phasers. Cuts a little bit of low end but not too much. It sounds very "watery" if that makes any sense. It can sound very open and wavy to sounding underwater. For free this pedal is great, I don't know how much they go for now but I wouldn't spend over 50 bucks for it now because I'm sure there are much better phasers out there. But then again I haven't played around with many

I did ask how the Boss Super Phaser is. How is it?

Since you didn't get an answer, I'll tell you about my Boss PH-3, which may or may not answer your question (but, hey...I'm tryin':D)

The PH-3 I own(ed) sounded incredible, but when playing got very hissy at the same time. I really liked the effect, but have a hard time with the hiss.

I'm not sure where it is, though my (soon-to-be-ex-) wife says she has no idea where it is, and I haven't been in the condo in nearly 2 years to get it.:rollno:

How do you like the Ashdown Dual Comp?

the Ashdown Dual Comp is actually quite nice...Now.

When I got it I was playing a Modulus Q5 which would overdrive the low end compression way too easy. they had that problem with alot of active basses. I found out thru trial and error that if I ran it thru the fx loop on my amp, I could get it to be pretty useable.
With a passive bass, the thing is pretty awesome. Makes my Hollowbody sound even more incredibly 3 dimensional.

I got it for $40 at MF a while back. I almost always have it on now.

Please tell me everything about the Ashdown Chorus. It's the only Ashdown pedal I haven't owned, and I'm curious. The description sounds wacky. Good wacky.

Good to hear it is working for you. I tried one and it just didn't work for me. I didn't have the overdrive problem, but it would have "artifacts" whenever the limiter would engage. It was well built and I was sorry to return it. I ended up getting a BBE Opto Stomp that I'm quite happy with. Compressors are one of the most person effects around. I liken it to distortion for guitarists - everyone needs to find their happy point.

I really need a bigger board. Kudos if you can guess the signal path.

The Chorus + can be pretty wacky.

The input, output and speed controls are straight forward. The chorus/flang knob does just that, goes from full chorus and morphs (it's not that far a stretch) into ful flange as you turn it clock wise.
The range control is harder to describe. it controls pitch modulation for the Flanger, but effects chorusing and filter modes as well, to a lesser extent.

There is also the filter swith that changes the pedal into a resonant filter. Really cool if you want to suddenly go from fat bass to nasaly rasp or hone in on a particular band. lotsa fun to tweak, as it is adjusted with the speed knob.

Altogether a nice pedal that can produce some very interesting and very useable sounds from eccentric to suble and back.
