I've got a set of FS6's available, no retail box... These were never installed, they were for a project I had that fell through. They list for $370, I'm selling for $210 (PRICE REDUCED!!!) shipped to the lower 48.

***Also, will take trade for a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass, fretted or fretless***

These didn't come with covers, but I can make wooden covers for an additional cost... I have a lot of cool woods on hand... wenge, bloodwood, maple, purpleheart, etc. If you want a specific cover shape/style, I would need to have one in hand to duplicate, and it would have to conform to the bobbin layout/style...

PM me if you're interested in the pickups, and also with wood options if you want covers made... I'll insert an example pic of covers.

Thanks for looking,

Shawn.

What's the string spacing on these?

Mike

SDB Guitars

They are setup for 18mm bridge spacing... standard for Nordstrand's 6 string pickups.

Too bad--my 6 has 20mm spacing, so these wouldn't be wide enough.

Are these a special custom set? I thought Fatstacks were supposed to be a soapbar type pickup...

SDB Guitars

They make two types of Fat Stacks... ones that fit a Bartolini route, and ones that fit an EMG route. The actual pickup is the same, but the shape of the bobbin is slightly different, to accomodate the different cover styles. These are the EMG style... please see the picture in the first post of the actual pickups in a (bloodwood) EMG style cover.

How much would zebra wood covers be?

SDB Guitars
12-22-2007, 10:08 AM
I could go $120 for a set of Zebrawood covers... would you want exposed poles, or covered poles?

Unless there is an acoustic reason not to...

SDB Guitars

I would cover them with around 1/16" of wood... it would not affect their usability or function at all. I just asked because some people (myself at times, for example) like the look of the exposed pole pieces.

Would you want the covers of just Zebrano, or would you want zebrano on the top, and something darker (like wenge) or lighter (like maple) on the bottom? I can also do zebrano covers with a wenge accent line...

Take a look sometime at some of the covers Wilser has made for his basses, covers with the multi-colored laminations... they look pretty sweet!

Let me know... there are a ton of cool thinks that can be done

PM's are also encouraged, to work out details... ;)

Dimensions please.

The bobbins measure approximately 25mm x 111mm

I don't have them in front of me, as I'm at work, but I measured them for someone else who was interested in them, and that's what my calipers said...

I have a string width of 18.4mm, will this work?
The rout is 1-3/8: W and 4-3/8" L.
What kinds of woods and finishes can you do.

Are you trying to replace pickups that are already in place? What type of pickups on what type of bass?

The bobbins would definitely fit into those routes, provided the covers were made ot match the previous pickups. The pole pieces line up fairly well if there is ony a .4mm difference at the bridge, I'd think.

I can make covers from nearly any wood, and I can do either a lacquered finish, a oiled/waxed finish, etc. Materials, design and finish are limited only by how much you are willing to pay.

Hello SDB,
Would I be able to use a Hipshot A style bridge with .750 string spacing??? Let me know, thanks...

SDB Guitars
12-29-2007, 06:34 PM
depends... are you building from scratch?

The pickups are designed for 18mm spacing, and 0.75" is about 19mm... 18mm = 0.70866", or a difference per string of .04134 however, as strings are spaced closer as they head toward the neck, you might be able to move the pickups just a hair closer to the neck and have them align.

If you are trying to retrofit into a body that's already routed for pickups, then it might not work for you. Most 6-string basses I've seen don't have 0.75" spacing, as that makes for a pretty wide neck.

So, bottom line, they are 1mm closer string spacing than you are looking at on that Hipshot. Hipshot *does* make a Style A bridge with .704" spacing, if you really wanted to use this kind of pickups. Your alternative, if you still want to use Fat Stacks, is to have Nordstrand custom-build you a set designed for 19mm string spacing.
