A friend lent me his L2500 Tribute...beautiful, plays great. I've been enjoying it, but just got to play it with a (loud) funk-rock band and WOW -- it sounded really good in the mix -- lots of good sounds, from powerful p-bass to great growl, to old school. I'm very impressed with the versatility and the way it punches through the mix, and just had to say so!

My fav: both pickups, series, passive, bass rolled off a tad. With the amp pretty flat.

I think it may be hard for my buddy to pry this bass back!

Wow. You've figured out the sweet spot in the tone controls already. Now all you have to do is sit back & let the groove come to you!

It's a little counter intuitive to turn DOWN the bass on a passive setting, but it works, and it's good to have that bass "in reserve" when you need it!

I also want to work out a good parallel setting, so I can then use the switch to series for killer boost when needed!

I suppose I could use the active switch for that. In general, I've liked the passive setting best in all circumstances.

Anyway, great bass. If I have to give it back, I'll need to get my own, or look for a used US L-2500!

I'm reading this site thinking in my mind how I have my controls set and it's exactly as listed in this post. Really a sweet spot, what makes it such? Why do we eventually gravitate to this setting?

When I got my MIA L-2500, I felt this is it no other basses for me, felt and played great. Usually play it, neck pup, series, passive, and really dug it. Then I bought a used 55-02 Deluxe a couple months later, always wanted one, got a good price on it. Man the G&L, 55-01, Sray 5, KSD Fretless 5, MIM Jazz 4 all stay parked now. I really dig the -02 so much. I took the G&L to a blues jam recently to reintroduce myself to it and it was OK but I did not feel the confidence I have with the -02, it just feels right in my hands for all my gigs. Should I try other settings on the G&L to re-love it again? I told myself I'd never sell it off but the case is getting dusty and I'm getting gassy for a -02 with LH3's to see if I'll like one of those.
