VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Top 3 best drummers you would love to jam with.
trigger_happy 01-03-2008, 02:41 PM Ok, so here's the deal, if you had one chance to jam with a famous drummer, be it a legendary drummer or someone already resting in peace; it could even be the guy next door, who would it be?
Name your top 3 drummers! I guess mine would be:
1. Chad Smith
2. Jeff Porcaro
3. Steve Gadd
I like 'em cuz zey have really big 'sticks'!
But seriously, I'm gonna learn alot from 'em!
Stereo Joe 01-03-2008, 02:50 PM Here's mine!!
1. Steve Smith
2. Dennis Chambers
3. Antonio Sanchez
Sneckumhaw 01-03-2008, 02:50 PM Sounds like fun. My choices would be
Dannie Richmond - Mingus was a God of music and Richmond only drove him to greater heights. Charles said he'd rather have no drummer at all than drum without Dannie. I know I have nowhere near the necessary chops, but I think Mingus discovered his genius partly through having the world's most amazing drummer, perfect for Mingus' genius. I don't so much wish I could play with Dannie as wish to find my own Dannie, somebody so perfect for my bass playing and compositions that he opens up new worlds.
Ringo Starr - I mostly play pop music, and Ringo is the perfect pop drummer with just enough grittiness in his hard-hitting style.
Ginger Baker - He might be something of a showoff, but mostly what he does is make basslines sound cooler.
Bill Bruford
Stewart Copeland
Neil Peart
Gavin Harrison
so its 4, I couldnt resist....theres at least another 5.

Amokoma 01-04-2008, 02:10 AM John Bonham, Bernard Purdy and Brain
DocBop 01-04-2008, 02:20 AM Jim Keltner who I've had privilege to hang out and talk about his approach. Bernard Purdie, and Steve Jordan. Also have to mention Brian Blade who is the most musical drummer I've ever heard.
BryanM 01-04-2008, 02:33 AM Max Roach - What can I say, I love any and all forms of bop, and this guy just about wrote the book.
Daren Hahn - Geggy Tah, Ani DiFranco. He's got a really smooth, subdued jazz style that goes great with bass, trumpet, sax and acoustic guitar (my favorite lineup, with maybe keys in if she's got finesse).
I can't narrow it down to a third at this moment, but perhaps someone like ?uestlove or anyone involved with Fishbone.

Pat Mastellotto - heavy kick foot, really understands the relationship between drums and bass.
Steve Smith - So articulate, so musical, so versatile. This guy's drum fills are part of pop culture.
...and honorable mention goes to:

Matt Cameron (who I have jammed with)
 My GOD Passinwind, you surely have been blessed with
that experience, Matt Cameron is an awesome drummer with
a one of a kind feel and an excelent sound. Congratulations!!!
As for my list... it´s soooo hard to think about just three Drummies i would like to jam with, (being a CLOSET DRUMMER and all) but following the rules set by the O.P. here goes:
1.- John Bonham (R.I.P.) - There´s no drummer in the world(IMHO) that could make rock swing so hard as his royal majesty of shuffles and fills MR. BONZO (i miss him soooo bad)
2. Jeff Porcaro (R.I.P.) - AHH...the good ol´Jeff, i don´t think i can say much as his body of work is self explanatory, outstanding drumming and musicianship, too bad he was taken from us too soon :(, otherwise i think he would have been capable of indulge us to this day with his exquisite taste and chops.
(Curious Fact: While explaining step by step the "Rosanna" shuffle on one of his instructional videos, he openly admitted that his famous shuffle was an alteration of drum parts created by BONZO and Bernard Purdie, in addition to his personal touch.)
3.- Aynsley Dunbar - This fellow landed some really good gigs in his youth before being called for the MOTHER of all GIGS (IMHO again), i´m talking ´bout nothing less than FRANK ZAPPA, after recording and touring with Master FZ, the people knocked hard at his door, i mean Journey, Starship, session work...you name it. Again, awesome sound and feel, and what a left foot...my God.
THANKS to the O.P. for this wonderful thread/idea. It allowed me to rant about one of my secret passions.
