I have been on a long bass quest and chose to use the MTD KZ 5 as the subject instrument.

I had my luthier friend shave the neck of the bass down to better support my playing style and remove the terrible asymmetry that the Korean builders didn't get right.

Well, I finally found out that the tone was severely affected by the tone and it took the clarity of the "Nord-Ere" combination for me to find it out.

Simply put the neck is not still and though I have a very respectable slap tone in single, series & parallel, the finger tone goes lacking and my low notes aren't tight and my mid range evaporates.

Does anyone know any builders who can build a better neck with some modifications that I would also have added?

Hi, take a look at Grandon's work on GW basses website, he's doing awesome wood work on many instruments...

You shaved that neck? I love that neck!

Why not contact Mike and explain the situation to him, he may be able to help you out or point you in the right direction...
