Hey, My band's been together for about a year and half and decided that with saved up gig money we'd opt to invest some studio equiptment (2 sets of MXL 990/991, 2 Audio Buddy preamps, plus assorted stands to go along with my friends Digirack 002 and Protools) instead of buying studio time.
After 3 long weeks, here's what we got from our first DIY project http://www.myspace.com/spacemoosestl . I didn't master, but I did some mixing and EQ'ing from recommendations I got from the web. Any opinions? Pretty decent quality? It seems like the mix really comes alive on higher volumes, any idea why?
THe recording process was as follows, we recorded drums and bass together: 2 overhead small diaphram condensors, one dynamic snare mic, one dynamic bass drum mic, DI bass. Then we recorded guitar layer by layer with one large diaphram mic at about a fooot and dynamic with about an inch from the grill, then piano direct.
PLease opinions on first recording would be appreciated.
Edit: sorry I originally meant to put this in recording equiptment but I messed up....
