I just registered to the forum. I apologize for all the English language mistakes I make.
I'm from Italy (little town 20 km from Padua) and I'm not young any more.
As an adolecent I started playing electric bass with a defretted Fender Jazz Bass (played jazz standards with a 5 member group, all better than me...even now).
At that time I bought a new laminated 3/4 double bass and started to play it with a lot of arco playing (I nearly finished the Billé method volume one with a good teacher) and now I'm starting from that point again.
Now I have a Strunal 5/6 4/4 double bass with a 111cm diapason with a really big pleasant sound, but I've encountered new intonation problems to deal with (hope I'll eventually manage...).
I really like the double bass and I envy my friends that took the path of being only musicians from the start.
I like modern Jazz, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Shoenberg. I made some compositions on my own...I'm hoping to hear them played some day by my new formed group (THAT has to come). I have learned many things by reading topics on this forum over many months and I thank you all for that. Thanks.
