Which do you hate more?

The guy that brags about his skill but is really horrible

or the guy that is better than you, and just keeps letting you know it?

This question sparked by another recent topic, check it out!

I've never actually experienced either - the good players are usually smart and humble enough not to brag because there is always somebody better out there, and the mediocre players I've dealt with tend to know that too. But I can imagine the first one (horrible player bragging and then making a big ass of themselves) being a lot more amusing than the second one, which would just piss me off after a while.

Anyway, if someone came up to me and started bragging about how special they are, I would probably just laugh my ass off in response... I mean, if you're so good in the first place, why can't you just prove it with your playing?? Talk is cheap.:p

Enough about me already, lets talk about you! :hiding:

I find non-talented braggers are more annoying. Most talented players will give away their secrets if you listen to them enough. :)

I agree, bragging in general is annoying but if I have to listen to their crap then at least I'd rather be listening to somebody who knows something worth learning.

I don't know if I have ever met a talented braggart. If anything, I have met talented people who were arrogant, and wouldn't give the time of day to those they felt were inferior.

Obviously both are bad, but something just bothers me more when the bragger has talent. If their playing is that hot, why not just let it speak for itself?

Also for some reason, when I come across a talentless bragger, it never surprises me.

+2. By the way, who came up with the dopey saying "It ain't bragging if you can back it up"? Actually, that is the very definition of bragging!:eyebrow: If you can't back it up, then you're just lying.

I don't know anybody who's any good that makes claims of greatness. Everyone I've seen that talked themselves up fell far short of the mark.

It's the quiet unassuming types that tend to just blow me away.

If a talentless player brags, I laugh at him.

If a talented player brags, I pity him.

Good choice of words, my friend.

The best players just let their playing do the talking. They don't need to tell people how good they are.

I have to pick "non-talented" because it's a family thing. My cousin is always going on about how great he is, how his old band "owned this town", name-dropping famous bass players he has met...but in all honesty, the dude absolutely SMOKES me and really can play. He can't possibly be as good as he says he is, but that leaves a LOT of room for him to be awesome.

So I pick non-talented as more annoying because I'm not related to any of them.

Always bragging? Carol Kaye, Bragging about stuff she did, Bragging about stuff she did not do. bragging about how she is the only one who (you fill in the blank), bragging about her studio adventures (true and questionable)... The list goes on....

If it is good or bad? You fill in that blank too.

I have never meet a talented bassest that bragged. I agree with who ever said it is usually the talentless ones that brag.

Non-talented braggart. I get really entertained by delusional self-confidence for some reason, so I guess I enjoy hating them.:p
