Need some advice here.I am looking in to purchasing a fingerplane and there are many sizes.What size would be ideal for general top carving?
I would be doing the majority of the work with a router but would need to clean up afterwards.

The 18mm convex / flat blades are what I use for clean up work. I use them like a scraper though since I haven't finished building quality housing for the plane blades yet. They are incredibly helpful tools, I use the 18mm flat one very frequently as a fine tuned scraper to get gluing surfaces flush.

Oh my......those are nice!!Reminds me too that there is a small local antique store that has many classic planes.His prices are very cheap.Wonder if I could find an extra tool?

antique stores, flea markets, garage sales are great places to find hand tools. That St James bay palm scraper looks sweet!!!
