T2W 02-07-2008, 07:03 PM I went to a music recording school and actually, tonight, I just finished paying off the 28000$ it cost me to waste my time there. I dont work in music at all. What im saying is maybe luthier school can simply reveal way too much and even discourage you.... however it could be the opposite as well, and possibly drive you to become a pro luthier some day. I would definitely recommend you build a few instruments first (dont know your life story, maybe you have already) and see if the passion grows, if it does, maybe you won't need to go to school at that point. Depending on how much this kinda school would cost, I wouldnt recommend it at all since the best way to learn is hands on the subject, not necessarily a pen and paper. Talkbass is a wonderful place to learn and get inspired, projectguitar.com as well, and other than that, if you are able to come up with ideas to build various templates and jigs, able to read a measuring tape, and able to come up with solutions when a problem arises.... well, you're good to go. so... No I didnt go to school to figure out how to build a bass, I taught myself, and the wonderful guys here on TB showed me close to everything else I needed to know about building. Good luck with your decision. Peace and Pecan pie. -Mario- |
