hey guys, been lurking here for abit, tons of useful info.
thought I might aswell introduce myself and my first build.
First off I'm a tool nut, in the last year I've spent maybe 4 grand on tools? not bad for a second year apprentice carpenter eh?
only thing I'm missing now is a 'working' jointer, and a big bandsaw really, and a few more luthier specific shaping tools.
and here's my first ever attempt at a build, probilly got 4 hours into it now..
the body is old growth, red cedar from my home town it's probilly the best cedar you could ever ask for straight clear grain, it's truely a pleasure to work with. I was pretty lucky finding this piece just happens my boss owns his own cedar mill on the side.
here's the back, with the shaping nearly completed, using a hand plane, a few files and a random orbital sander.

then the front
just starting to router out the neck slot here.

and...my current bass..which I didn't make sadly
but the tables, and box in the background were my old school projects :P

tomorrow, I'm starting the neck, and gunna make the truss rod.
I've got some 3/8's stainless I'm thinking of machining the truss rod from.
