Hello! This is for all you skilled luthiers lurking around tb.

I bought this Washburn Bantam 6 string from a local music shop. They said that Washburn says it's got a zebrawood top which it CLEARLY does not. It even has a "Z" in the model number (bb-6z) which would stand for zebrawood of course.

Can any of you help me figure out what kind of top wood it is? My guess is some sort of rosewood. This questions been driving me mad, even before I bought the bass.

Here are some pictures:

Looks like walnut to me, quite nice.

BTW, has anyone ever seen a fretboard made out of walnut?

I thought walnut at first, too. But the third pic really looks like ziricote or maybe bocote.

I'm with Walnut. I think the third pics is just overly bright, thus making it look a bit ziricote/bocote-ish

Now that I think of it, that would also account for the "Z"

it's not walnut, grain is close but not exactly prime for walnut.

Ziricote seems to match better anyways, thought theres a new wood from LMII that looks strikingly simular I just can't remeber the name..

No voting necessary....it absolutely is ziricote.

I just finished cutting up ziricote backs & sides for about 5 acoustics last month, so I've seen a lot of it lately.

My guess would be walnut, much more likely than ziricote coming from Washburn.
