i havnt been playing bass for long, but whenever i do, it doesnt matter what i try, i get this clanging noise, like the strings vibrating against the frets, when my brother plays on it, its fine, but when i do, theirs always a metal clanging when i strum, its very frustrating and annoying as i cant play properly until its sorted out. do you know what it is or how to stop it?

Could be a couple of things.......Try posting this topic over in the Miscellaneous forum!

Could be your fingers just aren't strong enough yet to hold the string solidly down. Could be your action is set too low. Could be you're playing on the fret instead of behind in. You might be plucking too hard. Watch your brothers hands and positions on the strings and emulate and see if that fixes it :)
