I'm thinking about building a bass guitar. My questions are,

What woods are best for building a bass? My neck is going to be hard maple, but was thinking mahogany. Also, I want to have my string spread be 1 1/4 inches, because I have small hands, and play lots of chords. What would you recommend for a bridge? Thanks!

Try the Schaller 3D bridge you can adjust the string spacing between 18mm - 22mm and they are are a really top quality
bridge.

Do you think this bridge will accomodate a string spread of 1 1/4" ? From E to G?
