The_Bass 07-19-2000, 07:23 PM yeah... but seriously though, we shouldnīt really move to much from BG to DB... they have it all so nice and quiet here. [Edited by bassdude on 09-09-2000 at 12:48 PM] Deynn 09-09-2000, 08:12 PM Originally posted by bassdude I wish more people would post here on the Double Bass side. [Edited by bassdude on 09-09-2000 at 12:48 PM] I WOULD...but I am not a double bass player.....:) Bruce Lindfield 10-05-2000, 09:05 AM I heard someone say that "Everything's good for you in moderation" - so surely some of the DB players must want to get involved in moderation? ;) Smith373 10-09-2000, 09:35 AM Hey - for what its worth I check this section to see if anything different is being tossed about. Kinda bare, isn't it. I asked about bassist Avashai Cohen in the Recordings section. I had to reply to myself!!!! Well, then I got one from Christopher. Thanks, bud. Bought Christian McBride's new one - nice. Starting to get a complex. It does seem to me that slowly, the DB is coming back to modern jazz. Maybe its just I'm noticing it more but there is more to notice thru CDs. Yes, I too have "CDAS", CD Acquisition Syndrome. I also remember Bass Player lamenting the fact that just plain ol' bass playing was in need of a revival. Like flat wounds, DBs, and simpler approaches. I love the fancy stuff too but you cannot beat a basic moving groove. Anyone think LightWaves optical pickups will soon be attached to DBs? Sounds promising. Have we had any Mel Bay sightings in your area lately? Now, guys, how's that for trying to start something (even if it ain't too off-topic)?? Hey, Ed F - any bluegrass bass news? :-) See ya's. AlexFeldman 10-10-2000, 09:43 PM I also dig Mr. Cohen's playing. Check out his alblum with Chick Corea (Origin) if you haven't already. Blackbird 11-05-2000, 10:32 AM Just doin' the rounds.. ignore me... Will C. CamMcIntyre 11-07-2000, 05:55 PM This place has a different vibe than BG Off Topic, it's so quiet & peaceful kinda like a deserted park...Uh oh I'm thinking of peace & stuff. Must Get back to BG. Bruce Lindfield 01-24-2001, 02:41 AM Well it looks like some "moderating" has been done in this section - wasn't there a thread on Steinberger Spirit basses around here? Is this a first for DB? Chris Fitzgerald 01-24-2001, 07:56 AM Hmmm, you know, you're right. I thought that Steakburger thread was down here as well....very strange. Is it possible that the originator of the thread deleted it? Or can only Paul do that? Actually, we seem to have a very quirky brand of "moderation" down here....whenever something starts to get out of hand (or out of place), it gets thoroughly doused with massive quantities of sarcasm, irony, double irony, random weirdness, and meticulously typed colloquial pronunciations. This system, which I notice is extremely unpopular with certain elements of the BG crowd (references to the dark and dismal "DB ZONE" keep popping up in various BG threads), seems to be very effective. Well, at least most of the time... yawnsie 02-07-2001, 07:42 AM Personally, I'm shocked that Ed didn't decide to "moderate" this thread... kpo 02-12-2001, 06:49 PM 1. there are less db players. 2. more of them are likely to not chime in where there's clearly nothing to say. 3. we like not having to sort through page after page of amicable conversation before we get to the meat of a topic... that's what chat rooms are for. rablack 02-13-2001, 02:23 PM Originally posted by Bruce Lindfield Well it looks like some "moderating" has been done in this section - wasn't there a thread on Steinberger Spirit basses around here? Is this a first for DB? Yes it was a rather amusing thread about the virtues of "headless DB's" I may have been the culprit having expressed an opinion about the "bottom line: goodness" of head (on a bass... you know as opposed to a bass without a head....:)). Was my rather sophmoric double entendre deemed to be too racy for such a family friendly environment??? Or maybe the moderators up north swooped down and moderated the thread away for being so far afield. I prefer when we do our own moderatin' down heyah. Brightens up my day. Bruce Lindfield 02-14-2001, 07:12 AM Nah! If you look on some of the BG areas, there are hundreds of post which got no reply at all and go back months - but they're still there! Whereas this one had some replies and disappeared after a few days - it was definitely deleted. Maybe the original poster was embarassed at his mistake and asked Paul to delete it for him? basslax 02-14-2001, 07:51 PM no moderators yet there is still the link "report this post to a moderator" at the bottom of every post  that link scares me.. rablack 02-28-2001, 02:28 PM Goth Barbie's "can I decorate it" thread has been moderated away as well. Thank you phantom moderator. Chris Fitzgerald 02-28-2001, 03:53 PM Yes, I'll second and third the "thank you phantom moderator" sentiment. Whoever you are, we are in your debt, with no idea how to repay you. I, for one, will begin repayment by taking a solemn oath to refrain from referring to Bass Guitars as "Canoe Paddles" for the next three months. At least. Thanks again. Chris Bruce Lindfield 03-01-2001, 02:23 AM Originally posted by Ed Fuqua Speaking of moderation, it looks like somebody done moderated CLOD right out of existence. If you click on his profile (after searching members since all his posts disappeared) it reads that he has zero posts. Ah, well. There are none so blind as those who cannot see..... God has left the building! ;) rablack 03-01-2001, 04:37 PM I see the mystery has been revealed - Mr. John Turner (of the chromatically tuned, 16 stringed, 45lb. multi-necked electric wonders;)) is now officially our moderator. Welcome, welcome to you and your herdin' stick. How does it feel to have your name in lights? Congrats on the "promotion." Mark Steel 03-01-2001, 04:55 PM Hey, JT's our moderator? Too cool! Welcome! Check this out--it may just have enough strings! http://www.bazantar.com/instrument.html john turner 03-01-2001, 05:27 PM hey, thanks guys - ed you moved me, truly. :D oh, and double dad, thanks a million for the link, that instrument is beautiful. i've always been a fan of viola de gambas and barytons, and that bass is just wonderful. David Kaczorowski 03-01-2001, 05:43 PM John, you gotta promise to let us have a little fun with the dopes that come looking for trouble over here before you boot 'em. john turner 03-01-2001, 05:51 PM of course. i probably won't move on much of anything until asked, although i might chime in on the more obvious genetic defects. at least this way, you guys can get rid of the crap that you don't want around. also, if anybody needs any help with posts or pics or anything, my email's always open. :D |
