Hey - for what its worth I check this section to see if anything different is being tossed about. Kinda bare, isn't it. I asked about bassist Avashai Cohen in the Recordings section. I had to reply to myself!!!! Well, then I got one from Christopher. Thanks, bud. Bought Christian McBride's new one - nice. Starting to get a complex. It does seem to me that slowly, the DB is coming back to modern jazz. Maybe its just I'm noticing it more but there is more to notice thru CDs. Yes, I too have "CDAS", CD Acquisition Syndrome. I also remember Bass Player lamenting the fact that just plain ol' bass playing was in need of a revival. Like flat wounds, DBs, and simpler approaches. I love the fancy stuff too but you cannot beat a basic moving groove. Anyone think LightWaves optical pickups will soon be attached to DBs? Sounds promising. Have we had any Mel Bay sightings in your area lately? Now, guys, how's that for trying to start something (even if it ain't too off-topic)?? Hey, Ed F - any bluegrass bass news? :-) See ya's.

Hmmm, you know, you're right. I thought that Steakburger thread was down here as well....very strange. Is it possible that the originator of the thread deleted it? Or can only Paul do that?

Actually, we seem to have a very quirky brand of "moderation" down here....whenever something starts to get out of hand (or out of place), it gets thoroughly doused with massive quantities of sarcasm, irony, double irony, random weirdness, and meticulously typed colloquial pronunciations. This system, which I notice is extremely unpopular with certain elements of the BG crowd (references to the dark and dismal "DB ZONE" keep popping up in various BG threads), seems to be very effective. Well, at least most of the time...

Personally, I'm shocked that Ed didn't decide to "moderate" this thread...

1. there are less db players.
2. more of them are likely to not chime in where there's clearly nothing to say.
3. we like not having to sort through page after page of amicable conversation before we get to the meat of a topic... that's what chat rooms are for.

Yes it was a rather amusing thread about the virtues of "headless DB's" I may have been the culprit having expressed an opinion about the "bottom line: goodness" of head (on a bass... you know as opposed to a bass without a head....:)). Was my rather sophmoric double entendre deemed to be too racy for such a family friendly environment??? Or maybe the moderators up north swooped down and moderated the thread away for being so far afield. I prefer when we do our own moderatin' down heyah. Brightens up my day.

Nah! If you look on some of the BG areas, there are hundreds of post which got no reply at all and go back months - but they're still there! Whereas this one had some replies and disappeared after a few days - it was definitely deleted. Maybe the original poster was embarassed at his mistake and asked Paul to delete it for him?

Yes, I'll second and third the "thank you phantom moderator" sentiment. Whoever you are, we are in your debt, with no idea how to repay you. I, for one, will begin repayment by taking a solemn oath to refrain from referring to Bass Guitars as "Canoe Paddles" for the next three months. At least.
