Hey JMJ!
well, I have to say this section of talkbss is really managing to put a lot of things in perspective for me!
but i wanted to see what are some of the things your not too happy about during your session work!
I dont want you to badmouth people or your work on certain songs (god forbid :D ), but I just wanted to see what some of the things you would warn others about are!

There is a downside to session work? Maybe I don't get to do enough session work, but the only downside to session work that I can see is carting 45 basses, 10 amps, and hundreds of pedals ;)

No downside to bringing that gear, someone does it for me! Boo yah.

Otherwise, the only downside to sessions is hacking away at a part with a producer or artist who can't articulate what they are after, or are having you mimic something to a state of complete verbatim perfection. And if THOSE people aren't paying enough? Then you've got a real recipe for being bummed.
