Did I already mention it? It's like an alt-rock supergroup, done initially only via file-sharing. There are seven of us. I have heard of other bands doing this sort of thing (Pell Mell, for example), but I have been curious as to how it could work. Who starts? Do you just all use the same software and then simply add your track(s) to those others have already created, perhaps with a click track for timing? Do you then eventually get together to work on it in the same space? My apologies if this is a series of questions born of ignorance, but any insight you might share would be genuinely appreciated. Person #2 downloads stereo MP3, makes a new session for himself, creates something, uploads individual stems of a contribution to that idea. Say, arbitrarily, piano left, piano right, acoustic guitar 1, acoustic guitar 2. 4. Person #1 adds #2's tracks to his mix, then posts another MP3 ref. 5. Person #3 re-creates step 3. 6. Person #1 repeats step 3. Eventually we have a "meeting" about that piece of music and pare it down to its essentials. Then someone mixes it. This is at least the way it works with Digital Noise Academy. Best, JMJ jmjbassplayer 04-15-2008, 10:30 AM Oh, and software only matters partially. Most of us use Tools, so sometimes, we'll upload and download entire sessions. But for the one guy in our ensemble using Nuendo, he just grabs and uploads audio files, and it works out fine. JMJ |
