I've got a guy who wants me to build him a left handed bass, as you just about can't find them. Other than flipping my templates around, is there anything else I need to take into consideration that's different about a left-handed bass build?

any specifics you can share about the build?

if it's just a stanrads P-bass, most things are simply flipped ... but then you need to know their preference for the working direction of pots

on other design styles, some of the hardware can be difficult to find

If you're going to mount a MM pup with the usual two screws on bass side and one on the treble, and and it has writing on the face, the pup and the writing will be upside-down.

Your response is timely as I am planning to install a MM style pickup.
The client already has a Jazz style bass and wants something different, something with more punch and cut. It will remain a 4 string, but he was receptive to a body style in the vein of a Kawai FIIB or Spector NS2, neckthrough. He also liked the ones with zebrawood tops, and I'm planning to make the body and neck of Lyptus to keep costs down.
I'd like to use either EMG actives or a single MM style active pickup, nothing too wild or complicated. Bridge is to either be a fat brass job, or I'll make a wooden one like found on this site. Tuning machines will be ebay specials, again to keep cost down.
In the end, I'm probably only going to be covering my material costs, and I'll mark the rest as experience. I'm sympathetic to the client, because there really aren't any left handed basses in the Bay Area shops to try out or purchase.
