Any ideas ?

That picture's not much to go off of. If I were to take a wild guess I'd say either alder or ash.

Looks like Philippine mahogany to me.

I thought mahogany too but the wood seemed too light colored to be mahogany. As I look again I'm guessing mahogany also.

I will be stripping the paint off, i cant stand sunburst.

Will it be easier to identify once all the paint is off ?

In terms of weight its hard to say without the neck on, but i think its medium in weight, its not light, but its not heavy.

I was thinking Adler.

Ibanez Silver series from the 70's is a jap lawsuit copy, i don't know if that helps ?

Thanks for the help so far guys.

It's not alder. I was thinking mahogany, but you can see some streaks through the trans-yellow that look more like ash.

Can you take a pic of the whole body?

I agree, with a twist. It kinda looks like it's mahogany with an ash top.

It looks to me like it would be a Mahogany type wood with a lighter Ash type veneer on top.

I would say mahogany with a maple top.

Ibanez is notorious for using Agathis for their body wood, and in upgraded models (with an FM designator) they use an Agathis core with a figured Maple (the FM notation) top

based on this, I'd say you have a Maple topped Agathis body. looking closely at the image you provided, it's easy to see the veneer line just below the top surface. this is why you have two distinct grain patterns on your bass body

all the best,

R

I'll concur with Rodent... After a second look I can see the veneer on the top. At first I was thinking the light color on top was paint. I have seen plenty of instruments made like this. Agathis / Philippine Mahog The stuff of pallets, door skins and pacific rim furniture.

That's definitely an ash top.

If it's veneer it may be very thin, so you'll have to be very careful to not sand through it to the ugly wood underneath.

Thanks guys

Just one other thing. I'm looking to strip the finish(i hate sunburst, and even more so 3 tone sunburst :spit:) Will i ruin the veneer at all if i use paint stripping chemicals ?
