I play in a Prog/metal band and I'm have troubles with what i think is my EQing. It seems like the only thing that cuts through the mix is my lowest string (I tune BF#BE) and when i turn up to accommodate for the other strings the low B is far too loud and sounds ****** and distorted. I cranked the mids and cut the bass (not completely of course) but got the same result. I don't really think is my rig, i'm playing an sr2000, with a GK700rb-II powering an ampeg 410-HE and a brand new Avatar 212. Any suggestions??

It likely has to do with your bass setup. Is your low string an actual B string, or is it something else tuned down? If it is a B string, and the others are tuned down, perhaps the B is tighter, therefor more responsive. Also, take a look at your pickups and see if the bass side is higher than the treble side. A few millimeters makes a big difference in response. Try lowering the bass side, or raising the treble side.

It was the latter, i lowered the bass end of the pups were way higher than the other side. that'll be the last time i get my bass set up by that tech again!

It's surprisingly hard to notice. Even if its slightly off, it makes a big difference. Does it sound more even now?
