My new L-2000 has all three switches as 3-ways. The middle is supposed to be series/parallel, but has a third position.

What's with that?

He is suggesting in the quietiest position of the series/parallel/single coil switch which is probably single coil. You touch a screwdriver to each row of the pickup with the bass plugged in. If it is single coil one row of the pickup(s) will be inactive.

That's correct, sorry for not being more precise. I was looking for the term ,,row'' in that context.
