i'm a total newby and not computer literate, so i'm not even sure i'm doing this right. i feel like a dinasaur. at 52 my buddies decided to start playing again and advised me that i'm playing bass. past music experience is writing/playing my own folky stuff on 6 string.
any of you who can sing and play bass at the same time, more power to ya. its like rubbing you tummy,, patting you head while hopping up and down while someone kicks ya in the ass.
anyways.--i don't want to learn theory, reading etc... not going to get serious. i just need a way to figure out what to play. i hear about this tascam gizmo for looping but then hear it's cheap gear. i have a pc not a mac and i'm not to computer literate. i'm an old analog guy.
just looking for some advice. i'm sure 100 people have already asked. what's the best way for me to learn these bass lines. gonna play originals and i have thier old stuff to listen to. plus some byrds/poco/that type of stuff. chris hillman/rick danko.
also, if anyones into old stuff and trivia. the guy who invented travis bean stainless necks used to do our guitar setups. i have some old stories.-dave

Don't be afraid, everyone learned it some time. My 70 year old grandma just got online this year, and she's doing great.

For picking up basslines I recommend going to the following website and finding a tab (i.e. a written-out bassline) :
www.ultimate-guitar.com

On that page type the name of the song you want to learn into the search box and hit enter. Then a list will come up with tab files that match your search. Find the one by the original band (sometimes remakes get made into tabs) that is for bass and open it up by clicking on the song name. An advertisement window will pop up when you do this, it's normal but annoying. Go back to the window with the tab by closing the ad window. Back on the tab page look for the "print this tab" at the bottom and click that. It will make the page ready for printing, which you can do quickly by pressing the buttons 'control' and 'P' at the same time.

Now using this as a guide, play along with a CD to practice, refining as your ears tell you.

Hope this helps :)
