When i lived in Cali one of my friends played guitar quite avidly, but i only played sparsely.. and was rubbish. However, now that i've gotten serious about it i've got absolutely nobody to play with. Its really quite frustrating, none of my friends can even sing one note in tune let alone play an instrument. One of my roomates used to play guitar for like 5 years.. but he's so addicted to World of Warcrack that he doesn't even leave his room now :scowl:

Literally the only person i know in this state that plays anything is my sister. She has a Squire Strat.. but doesn't play too often.. and frankly sucks. She also plays piano (quite well), but theres not a whole lot that either of us listen to that incorporates piano (i'm talking about popular music, i know there is classical, but i can't read standard notation.. yet). I was at her place today, and by the end of the night we almost had Mr. Blue Sky down.. so i told her to learn some more ELO. There must be some cool jazzy type stuff we can do.. i just don't know where or what to look for. Suggestions?


Also, suggestions how to find someone relatively new at guitar or drums (i've only been playing seriously since January)? I've checked out craigslist but thats all professional bands and whatnot.. i'm not looking to gig, just want someone to fool around with.

what school do you go to? I am at umass lowell, and there are alot of musicians wandering around here. (finding the good ones is the trick ;) )

I'm in almost the same boat. I haven't been in a real band since around Feb... it's driving me nuts. I have a lot of guitar players that want to play... but none of them are committed or will actually "follow through" with the idea of jamming except in rare cases.

I think it's just a rut. Keep searching for people who play music or ask your friends to ask people they know if they know anyone. Try to network. A new band will eventually come along. :hyper:

Yea.. i'm not at school, lol. If i was it'd probably be a lot easier.

Even tho I'm in 2-3 bands I'm similar- hard to find good players around here!!!!! :-(
Have U thought of one of those Fender B-DEC amps- with the "band" built in??? Thats what I've been thinkin about- at least I could program a song or 10 in & groove on 'em for as long as I needed- here it's HARD to get ppl to practice/jam. No $$$ No play seems to be the way many ppl are-sadly!

Well hell i can play along with my computer, but its better with a real live person.. i mean maybe they're not really Alvin Lee but its someone to talk to, to get feedback from.

check out the cat empire for good piano stuff 2 play with admitedly alot of the bass is played on a DB, but some is done on and EB check out songs like the car song, sly and 1,4,5 for good bass lines. absolutely amazing band!!

Dude, you're right between Framingham and Worcester.. there's probably 100 bands within 25 miles of you and I'd guess half of them are looking for a bass player..

JSingles, rock on UML.. went to school there a ways back.. course it was ULowell when I started.. Glad to hear the music school is still kickin' strong..

Could just jam in a X key for awhile and write your own stuff instead of playing other people's music with your sister. If she is good at piano shouldn't be an issue.
