Forgive me if this is a total newb question. What is the difference between Pa subs and bass cabs? There may be a frequency response issue but is there much difference in output? Let me put this is context.

For an upcoming concert I am working with a sound guy (who we'll call SG) to put together the sound. I have an avatar 2x12, 2x10, and a Dr Bass 1x15. These cabs can handle 500W, 500W, and 350W respectively. I am also borrowing a set of 15" folded Pa subs (around 300W handling). SG seems to think that my cabs are just auxillary and not going to add much to the overall bass at the event. This seems a little strange to me. Is SG just used to systems with 2 dual 18 cabs for subs and thinks that my stack is too small, or is there really that much difference in the output of these different kind of speakers?

I guess my question is what is the difference between bass cabs and subs?

It seems like if you are running the sound through a crossover anyway and sending the lows to the subs, bass cabs would work in a pinch to reinforce the low end. I know that most official subs are going to handle a lot more than most bass cabs and ergo have more output, but is there more to it than that?

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

SG doesn't want you running a lot of stage volume from your rig, making it harder for him to do his job with the FOH and stage monitors.

And for anything larger than a club or auditorium, the PA should dwarf even a Value Meal sized bass rig. For a larger show with a decent PA, you don't need to -- and shouldn't try to -- fill the venue from your stage rig.

True, I totally agree. However, in this situation, our subs are less than ideal so I thought that we could put my cabs into the PA system. Add them in with the subs so to speak.

Am I crazy? Is there any reason that this is bad to do?
