Hi,

I am currently thinking about Fat Stacks for this. Are there any other suggestions? I also want to have a nice high end sizzle and snap, but only when I want it to.

Villex Classic pickups have the sound you describe and they have nice high end, but you can't get the harsh treble sound (if that is what you are after)

What about their new pickups? I would want the Passive EQ with pickups if I got them

But the classic would be better for me? I would get it with the passive eq.

Both will fit the bill. The two lines are just different. The Classic fits the bill as does the NVT. The Classic comes with the mid-control and the tone pot while the NVT comes with the Passive EQ (different circuits and designs)

bartolini is a well made, great sounding pickup. they are easy to find and alot more bass manufacturers are using them. the bartolinis are extremely versitile, you can get whatever sound you want out of them. i am talking about the bartolini active soapbars.

The active Bartolinis are found on the US MTD basses AFAIK (which are superb basses, by the way; I have personal opinion over them).

Still, I discovered Villex pickups when I changed the Barts on a great Warrior bass, three times over to achieve a nice singing tone (I even tried the CX line of pickups, the most extended range).

Once I placed the Villex pickups the bass turned into a keeper

Are you dropping them into a pre existing bass or putting them into a custom instrument? If you can fit them than the Ken Smith pickups made by Kent Armstrong are everything that you're looking for, especially wired in series.

thanx for dropping the hint about the villex pickups. how much do they cost in comparison to the barts and how do the villex humbuckers stand up against the lane poor pickup?

I just made the correction to clarify that several sets of Barts went on the Warrior before I placed the Villex ones.

Price wise, you can look up at the Villex site.

The Villex pickups are in the same ballpark with Lane Poor, in terms of fullness and balance, yet they are more articulate, with hotter output and more versatile tone-wise
