VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Aerodyne Wiring (reversed wiring?)

OK...does anyone have a pic of their wiring for an Aerodyne or other CIJ jazz bass (which I think would be similar).

I picked up an Aerodyne Jazz today that I knew had some issues. I open up the back panel and I find out that there are no wires connected to the jack. One is off and the other is missing. I'm missing the frame of reference for the wiring on this one. I have soldered the wires on as I thought they should be, but it seems that I have either used the wrong pole or reversed the wiring. I have sound (decent sound) and have controls over the pickups. But the bass is dead silent UNTIL I touch the strings. Then the hum starts. This is the reverse of any hum I've experienced before. I'm missing my frame of reference.

There may be another wiring issue unrelated to what I've done. If anyone has a pick of the wiring I would appreciate. Thanks.

That looks pretty similar. That should help a lot. There's only one wire to the jack?

I think I found my problem based on the diagram. I'm assuming the diagram is pretty similar to the aeros (swap a p pup for the neck j). Thanks. I couldn't find the fender wiring diagrams. Thanks again.

There's something weird about that Am Std Jazz wiring diagram. I think maybe because the plate acts as a ground, they don't connect all the ground points together?

I have an Aerodyne, and I've replaced the pickups/wiring and shielded the cavity, so probably a picture of mine won't help too much, but I remember how it was originally wired, and this diagram is exactly it:

Good luck.

Right i attempted a pic, but its hard to photograph a mirrored background well, also my cameras not so good.

Ive only got one wire to the jack.

Yeah, the plate is grounded.

Which bass are you looking at? Does it have one or two pups? I haven't had a two pup passive bass and don't have reference. Thanks.

Thats exactly right. There is no shielded pg on the aero that I have. It looks like I soldered the ground wire to the wong section of the master tone pot. That may explain. I think the single wire jack examples are where there is a pg. I'll try this diagram and report back.

Thanks to all for the help. I couldn't turn down this bass. I basically got a CIJ Aerodyne bass for less than $300 with a hsc. Not in perfect condition obviously, but no major problems that I can tell and the wiring was a 'simple' fix (although not as simple as I thought since I didn't get it right on the first try.

Thanks again all.

Yeah, the plate is grounded.

OK. That would be the difference and the reason for my confusion. With the aero (older 90s with no pg) there is no plate or pg. I grounded to the wrong part of the pot (I think) :rollno:

The wiring diagram for the p/j did the trick! Thanks Brent! Thanks everyone. Got a good wiring 101 edu.
