Which do you recommend, assuming you use on and are not all super-dampitty...ok. Thanks!

I use my home-made humidifiers: old cotton t-shirt wrapped in a mesh (like sold with various veggies), put in the f-holes. I also keep my bass in a trunk and when I am away on travels, I wrap the trunk in plastic. Yes, I must keep my South-of-France-manufactured-bass VERY humidified in Arizona!

Mr. Neher, I was also considering keeping my bass in a trunk when I'm not using it. Seems like the best way to avoid damage to the instrument. Do you recommend any trunks?

Basically (HA! HA!) any trunk (for humidification purposes) will do. I use one of those super light (about 20 lbs) styrofoam, canvas convered, zippered-up trunks that a lot of cheap basses are shipped in to dealers (I got mine from Steve Koscica in Phoenix). I don;t use the trunk for travel, just for storage. You could make your own box too. If it were plastic-lined, it would really help to keep the humidity in. Best! PN

What case do you like to travel with? Just curious because you have a really nice bass and I you obviously take good care of it. I just bought my dream instrument so I'm trying to take the necessary precautions with the cold Canadian winter and the unfortunate fact that I'm a gigging musician in a crowded city.

If I go by air and HAVE to take a bass, I use a Gil - brand case. It is a bit large for my Laborie-Quenoil, but has always protected it. There are some other super great cases out there: Gage, Stevenson, Tough-Lite, and the oldest son of F. Rabbath is making cases I think in Carbon-fibre or bullet proof mesh or something (for all you bassist involved in spying, or would that be counter-intelligent ..ha!). Anyway, the airlines have been SUPER unfriendly to bassists lately (see the ISB site for more info) and it looks like we need to create a great network of loaners around the world so that a bassist will no longer be required to travel with a bass (Arizona Bass Players, Inc. recently aquired a loaner with bow!..Woo Hoo!).

Sorry to be going off about gear etc!! What is your favorite gig bag? I hope I'm not irritating you!!

Soft bag for a double bass ... I use Morridian, always have, always will. For my acoustic/electric, I have a custom hard case. Never put that in a soft bag, too fragile! :)
