How do you drill the holes for the wires coming from the pickups to get them to the controls on natural finishes? similarly the pickups that are actually off the pick guard.

If it was painted my idea was to rout the path out either on the front or the back then glue a thin veneer on top. I'm really more asking this out of curiosity than anything else, because I don't plan on making a stained bass any time soon but if i were to make one for someone else it's good to know ahead. cheers

When I do it, I use what is called an aircraft drill bit. It's ~18" long, and small (I use 3/16" bit).

After routing for the pickups and the control cavity, I drill from the neck pocket all the way down to the bridge, and then I drill from the bridge pickup route into the control cavity. That way there is a hole running from the neck pickup cavity into the bridge pickup cavity, and then the bridge pickup cavity is connected both to the control cavity, and to the location of the bridge, for the purpose of grounding the bridge

You gotta plan ahead for that. since the pickups are always wider than the actual neck blank, you can simply route a channel on the side of your neck blank and then when you route for the pickups, the channel is magically revealed. yep. then with a long drill bit, you drill ahole from the bridge pickup to the CC. Its pretty easy, just always gotta plan ahead. Imagine putting in Leds.
