Hey Paul... do you think we could get some more ranks on TB? You know, like when you get 100 posts you get a certain rank and when you get to 500 or 1000 you get a different one... maybe when someone gets to 5000 they could get the rank "John Turner"...

If this encourages any of those freebie post threads (which would make sense) then you can just delete the thread and punish whoever was trying to waste bandwidth by banning them temporarily or something along those lines.

This is a cool new forum, BTW! :)

FYI, there were ranks before.
Paul removed them to prevent users from posting useless messages just to get a higher rank.
I think it's ok the way it is now.

i think that above 2 or 3 thousand posts you should bring back the post count. :D

maybe make it a perk to being a supporting member.

lo-end,

Sorry, the freebie posting was just too excessive when new members saw the need to "climb up" to member status.

John - that's a good idea. We can definitely do post counts for supporting members.

I agree with Paul. They never served any point, and they caused more problems than they're worth. Having to go through and delete all those threads would be rather draining task for the already hard working moderators. I guarantee, if you just post when you need to or when you have something to add, and don't worry so much about "talkbass status", you'll find they aren't very necessary. :)

By the way Paul, I like the idea of these new forums. Good call!

what JT said!

Personally, I like it WAY better without the post counts. Back when we had them, every time I looked at my post count all I could think about was the fact that I needed to get a life.

JT has a pretty good idea. Only problem is he'd be one of maybe 3 people that are in that elite catagory ;)

I like the new forum ya have here Paul.

Me too! I would always think, "Man! Chris needs to get a life."

i would suggest that supporting members could pick anything for their members status... i bet some would be hilarious.

.....said the member with 3700+ posts to the member with 2250.

But who's counting?

I hear ya, man. I really need to get a life myself!

And I like adding post counts to Supporting members. That would give people who are concerned about such things some incentive to send money in!

I think the post counts are rather pointless. It may display TB seniority, but it doesn't tell you much. Some members with 5 posts to their name are more helpful and make more sense than some that have 500.

I've accepted my said pathetic lot in life. And besides, don't go bringing logic into online discussions, thank you very much.

i think the ranks should be on how long the member has been active, how much musical knowledge, if he/she created mega-threads, if they're pros, and how much he/she is respected in the forums and in the chat rooms.
i think we should use different shapes and insingias* for different accomplishments.

well that's my $0.02

*i'm not sure if that's how it's spelled

how can anyone measure things like that? also, how to verify it?

nice idea but i guess it will lead to fights and unfairness trials and eventually total chaos :D

besides, we already know who those "respected" members are ;)

aw come on, only intelligent-well behave people pay the supporting fee! (HAHAHAHA)

so...
you would expect some good custom member status...

also paul could do some moderating there (like when a user called "Punk as F***" was changed to "Punk as XXXX"...
