I am starting my first bass build, but I don't think that I want to make a neck for this one. Since it is my first one, I don't want to risk it. Maybe when I have a bit more money I might try it. For now, I want to buy an Ibanez bass neck, and try to build my body to scale with my neck. The problem is, I do not know anywhere to find just a neck. I checked ebay out, but I cannot find any Ibanez necks that are in good quality. Does anyone know anywhere else that I could look?

To buy an ACTUAL Ibanez neck, I think you don't have any choice but to go used and keep watching Ebay. Other sources for necks are Mighty Mite, Allparts, Warmoth, etc. But they're generally authorized Fender copies. Why are you specifically after Ibanez?

As a fledgling builder myself, I too am not yet comfortable shaping my own neck. So I'm currently working on a build using a Carvin four-string fretless neck. The neck itself is top-quality, and the fingerboard is a nice thick slab of perfectly finished ebony. I also like the tilt-back headstock. Carvin necks are also a bit longer than standard Fender dimensions, which is a good thing when it comes to planning upper-fret access.

Base price for their four-string bolt-on neck is $169. They also sell a five-string bolt-on neck starting at $189. Additional-cost options include inlays, fretlines (for fretless necks), different headstock shapes, and a tung oil finish.

I like the way Ibanez necks look and feel. I havent found any exactly like them yet, but I might have to compromise. I found one that I like more than the Ibanez necks I was looking at, but I cant find any background information on it, and its already been sold. http://www.avphoto.com/ebay/headstock.jpghttp://www.avphoto.com/ebay/neck.jpg

I planned on actually buying the bass and filling it in with the electronics, but someone outbid me last second. So i was just wondering If anyone knew where I could find a neck like it.

What price point are you looking at? I'm guessing if you are selecting Ibanez, or "Fullerton", you are looking at less expensive necks...

Any one of these can be had (at the time I stuck the links in here) for under $100, many for under $50...

Or, here's a body and neck together:

I gave up looking for a good quality used Ibanez neck after looking for years and ended up with a Mighty Mite neck...nice neck (I would stay away from the Eden necks, I have two of them (maple/rosewood) and they are not very good at all.

I've used the Mighty Mite necks before, and liked them a lot.

Of course, they are just a licensed Fender neck, so they'll feel pretty much the same as a stock Fender neck.

Here's one on a custom body I did...

The reason I was looking Ibanez was because I like the type of headstock. When I saw this Fullerton, I liked both the headstock and the pearl inlay placement. Also I want it to be a 24-fret neck. I know that the pearl inlay placement is pretty rare that way, so I am willing to compromise when it comes to that, but I still want that type of headstock, and all 24 frets.

You might just be best served to make a neck. It's not terribly difficult, if you take your time. You can get a pre-slotted (and radiussed, if you like) fingerboard and a truss rod from LMII, and even a plain maple 1x4 from Home Depot will work just fine for a neck.

If you can't find what you want for sale, make it yourself.

This is just a bit of a stretch but try cintacting the ibanez company and ordering a soundgear neck.

the Soundgear neck from Ibanez will cost you as much as buying the whole bass, I tried that.

Seriously, making a neck isn't that hard, you just have to plan it out, and cut carefully. You can complete a neck in a day, depending on the technique you use, and the style you choose.
