i recently bought a bass that the inlays were damaged, there was a clear plastic overlay on top of a thin wafer of abalam.. the plastic was melted due to contact with chemical stripper.. the result is there is nothing on top of the rough wafer of abalam, which some of the wafers have been damaged..

i'm thinking of removing the remains of the inlay leaving the open inlay channels..

i do not have the tools, nor the money to buy real shell.. or, even abalam to replace the current inlay..

i've thought about filling the inlay channels with an opaque colored epoxy.. i assume that you cannot use a powder dye in clear epoxy and get an opaque color.. because, again i'm assuming, that the ratio of dye to epoxy would be too great and i'd end up with a semi-transparent putty that would be messy and useless..

does anyone know of an epoxy that is opaque white, that can be easily dyed to a color and remain a thick liquid.. with minimal shrink..

or, some easier solution to fill in the inlay channels??
