Do the pickups need to be sealed after being put in the covers? I've done a few searches (which came up very informative), but i'm still a little unclear and i DO NOT want to ruin these pickups. I know there's quite a few builders that have used them and i could use the advice. Thanks so much!

I'm not sure which pickups you got, but my last set with wooden covers were Fat Stacks... the extra bobbin flat (spacer) is there so you can make covers WITHOUT exposed poles. However, as the flat exactly matches the pole piece spacing, you could also use it to drill your pickup covers to expose the pole pieces. You just want to make sure that the thickness of the face of your covers is the same thickness as the bobbin flat/spacer. Then when you assemble them, you just leave the spacer out, and voila - flush exposed pole pieces.

Not generally. I just put a foam rubber strip under the covers (stuck to the bottom of the pickup cavity), and it pushes the bobbin up into the covers. The screws go through the covers to hold them down...

I think you're going to like the Nordstrands. I put a pair of Big Singles in my bass and really liked them, but found that the buzz annoyed me when I soloed the bridge pickup. So I got a set of Big Splits and I like the tone of them better than the Big Singles (a little darker and richer sounding to my ear). When do you think you'll have the bass these are going into finished? I'd like to take a look at it.

actually, the bass that they're going in has been done for quite some time now. i had originally put in a set of bart's, but due to lack of information on their site...i ruined a set of pickups. this is the last step to the completed project, then 6 more to go!
