anyone use one? is it bright or warm?

i'm thinking of experimenting here...

They're soft. I built an elctric guitar from that 30 years ago. It was very light, and got dents very easily.

look at zacharyguitars.com...i forget which guitar in particular, but one was made out of pine that was rescued from the trash...it had cracks, and wormholes, and even a few nails. but apparently it sounds good, so why not.

i don't think i could trust pine. would be great cause you can get alot for nothing. if i evev used pine i would do it for the wings, because i think most of the tension comes from the center of the instrument, from the headstock, down to the bridge. and i think pine would give way very easily and bend when put under the maain tension area. i might do it on a short scale, and put a real tough finish on it.

I sell ash to a couple of guys who use pine for making telecasters; they say the original Fenders used pine.

Pines can be as different as night and day, e.g., white pine versus southern yellow pine. If you select pine with suitable characteristics, assure it's been sawn and seasoned properly before milling and glue-up, and select appropriate finishing products (many of the same precautions taken into account when working with basswood), a "pine" body should be OK.

Although a hard finish can help overcome problems related to denting, my greatest concern working with resinous or oily woods is their propensity for clogging abrasives, rasps, and files.

I like to think outside the box but pine is not really something I wood be comfortable with but if it work :eyebrow: why not?I just wood not use it for the top or back or neck ("13strings" (youtube)) but I might sneak :ninja: some in somewhere :hiding:

Poplar or agathis are much better choices for cheap woods.

Come to think of it, I LOVE agathis.
