I just lost a small, 1/2" piece of neck binding on my '78 Jazz.

It's located at the very top edge of the fretboard beside the nut where it tapers toward the headstock.

It appears to be a simple repair if and when I find a piece of similar binding material.

Any important things I need to know (like appropriate adhesives) before I attempt this repair?

thnx

When you are ready to replace the missing piece, cut a straight line in the piece still attached so you have a clean, straight edge. Then cut a straight line in the replacement piece. Glue it on with superglue. Then plut a piece of scrap binding in a small glass container with a bit of acetone. The acetone will turn the binding liquid. You can then brush that into the seam that was left from glueing the new piece of binding to the original piece. The liquid binding with melt the 2 pieces of binding together and also fill the seam. Just make sure the seam is clean or there will be a faint dark line. Give it a day to dry, then srape it even.
