No clue what forum to post this in, so I hope it's ok that I'm posting my thread here... if not, please move to an appropriate place.

ANYWAY, As the title states I'm looking for a program to slow down songs to make it easier to hear the bass. As a total bass noob (who doesn't even own a bass yet...) hearing the bass in songs is super hard for me, so I figured that if I could slow down the tempo of the song it'd make it easier.

I use a mac and I just spent all my money so freeware for mac, please

Am I completely wrong about this btw? Slowing down songs to make it easier to figure out the notes played, I mean....

Omg awesome program! thank you x 10000!
The freeware version will only play track 1 and 2 from CDs and 3 mins of audio files, but hey, it's a start. If I still like it after a while I'll just purchase a license ;D

I was going to mention that one too but doesn't it stop working after 30 days unless you buy it?

There are many good programs available. One of my favorites is audacity. Nice little audio tool that includes many features including tempo change without pitch shift. best of all it's free.

Oops, sorry I missed the "freeware" part of the post. It might stop working, I'm not sure as I have the full version.

Audacity.

Get it free from sourceforge. It is a free audio-editing application that you can use for many things. It's small and free, so don't expect it to be Cubase or something.

OP wanted something that was Mac compatible, BestPractice isn't.

Try Google? Transcribe is my favourite, but you can do more than just slow something down. You have pitch alteration, you can cut frequencies or make them louder, and a bunch of other things. Plus it does a better job at playing back at slower/faster speeds than quicktime does or most of the other programs I've seen. But if you want to slow down MP3, make sure they were encoded at 320kbps or higher, otherwise you'll get too much artifact.
