Seem to have learned the one octave scales and modes now I need to know about the pentatonic version of these modes and the formula for creating them. You know like what notes stay in the scale and what notes go.

Learning the modes and appplying them has been one of the greatest breakthroughs in my playing. Walking that bass using the modes has really made me a better player. I use them not only in my jazz studies but in all styles of playing. Thanks to all of you that have preached learning these scales and have taken the time to help us beginners learn this theory.

major pentatonic:
root
major 2nd
major 3rd
perfect 5th
major 6th

minor pentatonic:
root
minor 3rd
perfect 4th
perfect 5th
minor 7th

if y'all run across the blues scales, these are the same as the above, except:

major: add a minor 3rd between the major 2nd and major 3rd.

minor: add a minor 5th between the perfect 4th and perfect 5th.
