big daddy cool 05-04-2002, 04:16 PM I did have mild acne for a couple of years on my back and I didn't bother to do anything about it, but now I am on ethromycin and it has nearly cleared up. I'm just being left with scar tissue where it was.
My first question is whether anyone knows how long it might take for the scar tissue to ever heal, assuming it ever will. Months? Years?
The second is whether you ever had acne and your experiences with it. How you got rid of it etc. Cheers.
dancehallclasher 05-04-2002, 05:03 PM i had acne in high school, it went away by itself freshman year of college, merci a dieu.
your sig is much too big.
John Davis 05-04-2002, 05:04 PM I have a little bit on the lower-right side of my chin....it hasn't gone away yet.
Ulyanov 05-04-2002, 05:19 PM I'm 19, and I still get it occasionally on my face, but even then it's usually around my hairline, so it's no big deal. I get it a lot on my upper back and chest though, and sometimes shoulders. It's out of sight most of the time, so I usually just ignore it. I'll wash it of course, but that's it. It'll go away on it's own.
Nick Gann 05-04-2002, 06:45 PM I hate acne. I have it kinda bad on my back and upperchest. A little bit on my arms. I have it on my chin, under my chin, and along my jawline. I think it is the major reason I don't get the women. Other than that,

I agree!
Bryce 05-05-2002, 02:44 AM Unfortunately, the scars left by acne may never go away. However, if the scars really bother you, you can always opt for laser surgury. It's a little costly but, the results are really good. I'd advise you to talk to a dermatologist to get all the facts and options.
Sheep Man 05-05-2002, 04:19 AM Hmmm...
I don't really have any problems with it. I do, however, have a friend who calls himself "Oily Boy" because of his large acne problem.
Anyone who has a "different" remedy and cares to share it, lemme know and I'll pass it on to him. :p
*ToNeS* 05-05-2002, 12:41 PM drink lots of water to flush out your system. when you're pissing out clear urine at the end of the day, you're clean and this assists in ridding all the bad stuff that adds to the excess oil on your skin - i know it works, because a friend of mine drinks 3 litres of H2O a day and he's bloody well spotless.
it's a hard regime to stick to, though.

Three litres? You DO see him outside of the bathroom right? :D

well, now that you mention it, no ... but taking into account that he's been without a girlfriend for just over a year now, i'd hazard a guess that it's for an entirely different reason
"i'm, uh, i'm reading! GO AWAY!" :D
tallguybcs 05-05-2002, 02:23 PM My friend has it real bad, his face is all scarred up and red, but I got lucky, cause I my face is always free of acne.
My friend drinks at least 5 water bottles a day, but thats to clear his system for something else...:D

I don't get it.
Tom Crofts 05-05-2002, 04:25 PM For something else or of something else? Both are probably disgusting...;)
Nick Gann 05-05-2002, 07:03 PM I think he might be talking about flushing the pot (or other stuff) out of his system. I could be wrong.

You, Sir, are correct
Nick Gann 05-05-2002, 08:56 PM YAY!!!!!
I feel so smart.
:D
jrthebassguy 05-05-2002, 09:52 PM i used to have it real bad back in junior high. Nowadays I still have some, but its not as bad as in junior high. Alot of my acne, however, was caused by stress. Now that I'm much more care-free these days I'm sure that contributed it to going down.
I heard about drinking alot of water helps, but i thought it was a myth. I guess I'll try that to get rid of some exisiting acne.

also, never underestimate the power of direct sunlight.

*ToBeS*, I hear that you've been without a girlfriend for a while, too.;)
Bigfeet 05-06-2002, 12:16 AM I had a medical condition for a short while after the first time I was pronounced clinicly dead, apearently when you loose allot of blood your skin stops working for a while. So I got these really nasty infections all over my body, everybody called me a zombie because I was really pale and covered with red inflaming patches (they turned black and blue after a week or les) and blemishes. I tore a nice peice of my flesh off after itching and found a mill worm in my arm after falling asleep.
I'm full of wonderful stories, aren't I?

well ya know what they say, Jeffy - "a hole is a hole" :D :p
Johnny BoomBoom 05-06-2002, 04:31 AM When I was a teenager I was treated at a local hospital as an outpatient for my acne!!! I didn't think it was that bad either - my face /neck and my back got it real bad.
I was on various drugs to help control it and was contunially putting on Panoxyl 10 gel to dry up my skin!
As DHC points out, sunlight it veru good for reducing it - some treatement involves use of a mercury vapour lamp, puts out UV much like the sun but you can use it through the winter!!
As far as scarring goes I was lucky, the only ones I have that really amount to anything are on my back, my face is mostly scar free. BDC - to answer your question some of my scars must have been there about 15 years by now and their is no sign of them going away!!! I'm planning some tattoos for my back though - that should take some attention away from them!!!! (And nobody better say "and your face as well!!!!"):D :D
big daddy cool 05-06-2002, 04:39 AM Hmmm.... Leaves me thinking I should be drinking more water and getting more sunlight. Unfortunatly here in scotland we have about 2 weeks of sun in thw whole year, but since we also have the best water in the world that'll make up for it.
Oh, and I had no idea that water also flushes dope traces out your system... I'll remember that. Cheers.
Johnny BoomBoom 05-06-2002, 05:17 AM It's estimated that about 90% of people don't drink enough water. And remember that your body is more than 70% water!!!
I think it's recommended that you drinl 8 glasses of water a day - can't remember the size of the glass, maybe 330ml???? It also helps your kidnys operate and flush out toxins!!! Yes, every kind of toxin;)
I'm probably on about 3 litres of water a day just now. Yeah, and I know about the sunlight we get here - although, maybe it's better to deal with acne than skin cancer!
volumefiend 03-02-2003, 06:54 PM currently, i have a light acne problem. it clears up alright with my "soap and tetracylcine" technique. the topical medication just makes it worse, IMO.
John K. 03-02-2003, 07:04 PM Hmm... maybe there is some truth to that water thing. I drink 2 to 4 liters a day, and I only get a pimple about every few months. I just use some Stridex pads when I wake up and before I go to bed.
FLOYDtheBARBER 03-02-2003, 07:26 PM i have some trouble with acne. but the way i see it...who cares? no one speaks to me, or looks at me as it is...and i don't really care about it myself. problem solved.
Nick Bibeault 03-02-2003, 07:58 PM what ever you do be careful if you take Acutane for your acne. I was prescribed acutane and 2 months later after a monthly blood test (you have to get monthly blood tests for this drug) and my triglyceride (sp?) level was 4 times the normal limit and almost killed me:eek:
PollyBass 03-02-2003, 08:09 PM I have it all over my back.

I lost half my blood once and died another time, but never got acne from either. By the way, this is true.
jrthebassguy 03-02-2003, 09:00 PM whoa this thread is old. My lost post in this thread is almost a year old, and since then I've drank alot of water (apprently not enough to rid me of kidney stones though  ) and I'm almost fully clear.
But, like i said in my last post, in 8th grade i was your regular pizzaface. Good thing there ais lmost no scars on me.

Stanley Design 03-02-2003, 11:12 PM i have really bad acne on my face:( ide really like to help it, i have been using sprectro jel for years but it doesnt really work anymore, the only two things i drink is water and the occasional glass of orange juice, the only thing that seemed to reduce it is summer time, lots of sun, but what can i do for it? i want it gone. my face is sore and i dont like having big pus jewels on my face:mad: :( help me out guys...
I spent some time on various different drugs, erithromyacin, amoxycillin(sp?), and a few others. The only thing that cleared it up was Keflex. It took about 9 months to find the right drug, but once she prescibed it, it worked really fast. I took it for about a year. That was 7 years ago.
I went to another dermatologist about 2 and a half years ago to clear up a few splotches before our wedding (and to have a cyst removed). I asked for 2 weeks worth of Keflex and the doc laughed at me. I got a gel to put on at night that didn't work, but she ended up prescibing the drug when the cyst hole got infected. Cleared everything up within days.
Anyways, I know it's late, but I have a few scars on my forehead you can see only up close. I'm 23 and my acne was pretty bad from 14-16, before I saw a doc. Vitamin E supposedly helps (either a supplement or a fortified cream) with the long term healing process.
yoshi 03-03-2003, 05:18 AM Hi, you guys do know that if you drink too much water, it could kill you?
I learnt this in science a few years ago, apparantly it dilutes your blood or something, so fewer red blood cells carrying heamoglobin which carry oxygen are carried about at one time.
Plus your bladder might burst :p

If that's true, then surely it doesn't matter whether it's water or Orange Squash or whatever?
Chris Brodowski 03-03-2003, 11:52 AM Had some acne during puberty, but none at all now.

Hey Bigfeet, did they give you dome antibiotic or somethin' to kill the millworms??? And how are you doing BTW?
And Johnny, I think you need a Mike Tython-style facial tattoo to make the rest of your face obscure! :D :D Or maybe, SHAVE YOUR HEAD BALD AND GET A TATTOO OF A BRAIN ON THE TOP!!!!!

volumefiend 03-03-2003, 01:07 PM use soap on your face every day and night in the shower, and take tetracycline pills every night....it will diminish.
metallicarules 03-03-2003, 03:44 PM By the time you are born, it has been genetically determined whether you are going to have problems with acne or not. Some people will get acne and others will not regardless of what they do. Some will have acne that lasts for a year and others will have acne that lasts their entire lives. If you are one of the unlucky ones, the best you can do is use the methods above to improve your condition, but you cannot entirely cure it.
Ghosta 03-03-2003, 07:45 PM I have fairly bad acne on my face, slightly less on my back and some on my arms.
I take a gel and 2 creams (names of which i dont remember) but man i hate these, they dry up my skin , make it red, and start the skin to peel. My acne has gotten better over the last year or so, but i still get some, mostly when i dont use my medicine:p
Ill have to try this water tactic.

Yep those are among the worst. By far the worst I've experienced was when I got this huge zit inside my nose. The skin inside there is so soft and tender when you ever try to touch it your eyes start watering and it hurts like a total biatch. When you pop it its refreshing but for the first few minutes it hurrrrrrrrrts like mad. :(

Damn, I can just imagine how painful that must be. What a biatch, as you put it. I hope I never get those mofos.

bass87 03-06-2003, 12:56 PM I used to have quite bad acne, but I found that good ol soap n water was the best thing to treat it. None of the special chemical things worked for me. Im sure your will go away with time;)
IAMERICCOCHRANE 03-06-2003, 01:34 PM I have acne right now but im on Acutane, the most powerful acne medicine out there. But it dries me to hell, my lips get so dry they start to bleed. But thats just a side effect im willing to take to get rid of my acne. Its been a big problem in my family. My brother had it horribly and so did my dad. There both scarred alot. Im pretty bad myself but Atleast I dont get it on my cheecks and forehead, just my chin and nose, really bad.

i thought accutane was banned because of way too many bad side affects?
alexssandro 03-06-2003, 07:37 PM I used to have bad acne, especially when I was 15 years old. I used to wash my face religiously and use all the pads and stuff, but it didn't really seem to work that well during that period. Perhaps it would have been much worse if I hadn't done anything. But i never did go to the doctor. I probably should have. I knew of a friend that went to the doctor and I guess he got a shot of something. It seemed to work for him.
Phat Ham 03-07-2003, 01:31 AM carrots
Seriously. They have vitamin E, which is good for your skin.
In high school I had acne on my face. Not too bad really but still noticeable. Since I came to college it's gone away, but I still get zits here and there. Drinking water and getting some sun definitely help. If your piss is yellow it means you're not drinking enough water. I've also found that whenever I eat chocolate I break out, so I avoid chocolate.
T.O.Bass 02-04-2009, 08:48 AM The second is whether you ever had acne and your experiences with it. How you got rid of it etc. Cheers.
I realized that dairy products, in any form, gave me acne. I simply stopped eating dairy altogether. Problem solved ever since. Now I will only eat dairy in the smallest of portions, and very rarely, without complications. Actually, since realizing this, I have met several people with the exact same reaction to dairy.
EDIT: That said, you really should look into evaluating your diet and anything else you consume. Keep track of what you've been eating and how your skin reacts. You'd be amazed at what a diet change can do.
armywalaby 02-04-2009, 09:26 AM I know I never got acne until I joined the military. First popped up in basic training. So, I try to live stress free.
