I'm having trouble walking over minor 2nd's and making it interesting. For example, "Well,You Needn't" by Monk. What's the best approach to play over F to F#?

well i like walking down chromatically from the fourth... or up from the maj7

if the F# is diminished, substitute it for a D7.

An F# diminished chord would be the 3,5,7 and b9 of a D7 chord.
