hi, i bought an jackson kelly a couple of months ago, it was used, its an 80s model, with pj pickups passive, the problem is that the volume its very low:hmm:, the pickups are in good conditions,at least they look like, i wonder know if somebody knows why they sound so low or if there is any problem or what can i do, many thanx. this is a picture of the basshttp://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m219/conflict77/jksn-u-kelly.jpg

Odd. Those symptoms line up with an active bass being played with a dead/weak/missing battery. Have you had the access cover off?

yeah i did, but it doesn't have an 9v battery input, its a passive bass

If I were working on it, I'd:

1. Unsolder the hot wire running to the jack.

2. Unsolder one of the pickups' hot wires from its volume pot, and solder it to the jack.

In other words, pickup direct to jack. Do it for one, then do it for the second. Cheap/easy way to see what the pickups are doing w/o having the controls in circuit.

Is this bass's output so low that you can't use it in any setting other than practice?

well yeah it may be a wire problem or something, i think i may have to send it to a repair shop.
well yeah i cant practice with it but i cant use it to play a gig.
