Feel free to spout out what you think I should add to the mix, I'm very much open to suggestion...

More basses that are wallet friendly in this tough economy.
RocketMusic 10-21-2008, 07:11 PM :) I hear ya...
I don't say this to rub anyone's nose in it, but strangely enough... Rocket Music's economy has been booming for 5-6 weeks straight. Either folks are buying high end gear to make themselves feel better... or it's just the usual media song that gets sung every 4 years ("The sky is falling, vote for...!").
I should probably duck after that last comment... allow me to apologize in advance to all the R's and D's out there. Sorry! I realize that there are some seriously f-ed up things going on at the macro-economic level. The bottom line for me is that Rocket Music's economy is doing just fine, so I'm going to continue to plan accordingly. I'm going to continue to plan for success.
Before the day officially ends...and before I fall asleep at the keyboard:
Welcome to the Roscoe Family!
:hyper:
...I'll be adding Rocket Music to the website tomorrow, it was just too late in the day today for me to get 'round to it before saying 'bye to the office...
:D
VroomVroom 10-22-2008, 10:41 AM Hey, congrats on the current wealth of business. Does that mean you'll give me a whopper of a discount on an SKB-3007 with a sexy walnut top and birdseye maple fingerboard? :D
Seriously - as a big fan of the company and the amazing instruments they offer, it's great to see another dealer added to the network. I still remember being very happy to hear the news that my local shop climbed on board.
CrashClint 10-22-2008, 10:59 AM Hey Greg, welcome to the Roscoe family and congratulations on your thriving business, I hope it continues to grow!
Oh Greg, one question... What the heck is a Hokie?
RocketMusic 10-22-2008, 11:52 AM Hey, thanks guys! I can't wait for the waiting to be over and for the first bass to show up! Only 3 months to go :)
Ryan L. 10-22-2008, 09:33 PM Ash bodies are where it's at with Roscoes..............;)
Seriously.
RocketMusic 10-23-2008, 09:34 AM Yeah, I just ordered an SKB-3005 with an ash body, a myrtle burl top, wenge center neck and ebony board. It's going to be a broadneck 5 (19mm spacing). Should be pretty sweet.

Oh crap.
Bart/Bart electronics??
Do I need to start saving now??
I think Greg just spent part of my tax return for me.
RocketMusic 10-23-2008, 03:51 PM Indeed, Bart/Bart :)
Gard suggested I might not want to go broadneck for a non-special order bass, and I agreed earlier this morning. However, I'd be happy to switch it back if that's what's making you drool. The broadneck is a $300 adder, so this bass is sitting right at $5K...
Ah, heck, I'll make it back into a broadneck :) You only live once!
RocketMusic 10-27-2008, 03:44 PM Oh, sweet Hey-Zeus!! Gard let me know about a no-home that some dealer must have ordered and been unable to take for whatever reason... Long story short, 5962 is on the way to me instead. It's an LG-3005 w/ Spanish Cedar body, Buckeye Burl top, Black Ebony fretboard, Bart/Bart electronics.

Retail = $4750, and I should have it here on Wednesday. Yahoo!! We're getting the Roscoe ball rolling a few months earlier than anticipated!
Ryan L. 10-27-2008, 04:38 PM Nice!!
Just to clarify, retail=the price we the customers pay for it??
RocketMusic 10-27-2008, 05:01 PM Yep, Roscoe is funny like that. Most manufacturer's have a "List Price" that nobody actually pays, then there's a "Minimum Advertised Price" which turns into the Internet Price (that's why EVERY site shows pretty much the same price for product X). And the dirty little secret is that most people could pay even less than that if they would just ask...
With Roscoe, though, they just have a Minimum Sale Price (which they also interchangeably call Retail Price). Their Retail Price is THE price. I can't sell under that price no matter how badly I might want to... well, I could, but I wouldn't be a Roscoe dealer for long...
Personally, I think this is cool as a cucumber. You don't have to worry about some dealer taking you for a ride, and I don't have to spend half my day quoting prices (which is what I do with Warwick, G&L, etc.). Each Roscoe bass costs what it costs no matter what dealer you order it from, so all you have to decide is if the bass is worth that much to you and which dealer you care to honor with your business.
It should really push us all to be better dealers, because customer service is the only thing we have left to separate ourselves from other dealers (other than having the right bass in stock at the right time).
I dig it.
Ryan L. 10-27-2008, 11:41 PM I thought that's how it worked. I knew that Roscoe had gone to "fixed pricing" now, which I also think is a cool deal. Doesn't leave a buyer feeling like "I wonder if I could have gotten the price down a little more".
Just wanted to make sure I was right on my thinking that that's what retail meant.
CrashClint 10-28-2008, 08:39 AM That is what they have done with the Century Standards, the advertised Roscoe price is the price period. As a consumer when I go to look at one, I know the price and do not need to shop around. Makes it much easier for me, all I have to do is pick which dealer I want to buy from.
RobertUI 10-29-2008, 11:45 AM Greg, congrats on picking up Roscoe... now I have to save my sheckles for a while :-D
Oh Greg, one question... What the heck is a Hokie?
Being that I was Greg's roommate for 3 of my 5 years (5? what?) at VA Tech, I feel qualified to field THAT question... it's a long answer though, so I will point you to the offficial University answer to that question. http://www.vt.edu/about/hokie.html
Long story short, it was a 'word' used in a college fight song "Hoki" the "e" was dded later. The fighting gobbler later came to be known as the "HokieBird" due to the popularity of the term 'Hokie'.
RocketMusic 10-29-2008, 12:02 PM Ah, Rob, it's more fund to just say it's a castrated turkey :)
CrashClint 10-29-2008, 02:02 PM Ah, Rob, it's more fund to just say it's a castrated turkey :)
I was just messing with you, I was pretty much raised in Poquoson, VA. Being that it is my Irish heritage to pull for the Fighting Irish, I also pull for UVA. With the way the Hoos have started to play and the way tech is playing, there is a good chance for the first time in about five years that UVA can come away with a win.
RocketMusic 10-29-2008, 03:23 PM ...I also pull for UVA.... ...for the first time in about five years that UVA can come away with a win.
:scowl:
Boo-hiss!! Them's fightin' words!!!
:spit:

That's just crazy talk there... and AFAIK there's only 2 things that come from Poquoson ;)
Ah, Rob, it's more fund to just say it's a castrated turkey
That's so true Greg... I just went through this the other day, I fell for it AGAIN :D
RocketMusic 10-29-2008, 04:18 PM OK... I have to ask... what are the two things that come from Poquoson? Besides Clint, of course... And is it a family-friendly answer? :)
RobertUI 10-30-2008, 10:41 AM OK... I have to ask... what are the two things that come from Poquoson? Besides Clint, of course... And is it a family-friendly answer? :)
... was thinking more along the lines of the following quote from "An Officer and a Gentleman":
'The only two things from Oklahoma are steers and queers, and I don't see any horns on you boy (http://www.moviequotes.com/fullquote.cgi?qnum=20718)'
RocketMusic 10-30-2008, 10:49 AM Nice! I knew I was missing an allusion...
Nice!!
Just to clarify, retail=the price we the customers pay for it??
Ahh...sweet confusion...
;)
No, the "retail price" is not "the price" on the LG/SKB/Century Signature models, there is a minimum sale pricing policy which allows up to a maximum discount of 25%.
Here is a thread over in Roscoe World to clarify a bit:
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=322374
Pricing on the Century Standard, however, IS a "set price", so the price is the price is the price. ;)
Hope this helps! :)
...oh, and to stir the pot a bit in here when the topic turns to college football...
:ninja:
...uh...you guys are all talkin' about some of those "Almost Can Compete" football teams, right?
I didn't think they played football in VA colleges?
Signed
2008 NCAA BCS Champs LSU Tigers
:smug:
(...and yeah, we won't repeat, but betcha an SEC team ends up with the BCS Championship again this year...and next year...and...:D )

oh no you didn't
RocketMusic 10-30-2008, 11:36 AM Well, I'm clearly confused about Roscoe pricing. I'll follow up with you, Gard, for some clarification :)
oh no you didn't
Need we revisit the last time VT visited Death Valley?
:smug:
...do you really think the outcome would be much different today?
:hyper:
;)
In other words: Yes I did.

:atoz:
Ryan L. 10-30-2008, 05:13 PM Ah-ha!! I thought things seemed a little high ($$) earlier in the thread. I didn't know if I had missed another price increase or what the deal was.
Thanks for clarifying, Gard.
Now back to your regularly scheduled college football debates.:atoz:
RocketMusic 10-30-2008, 05:40 PM Yeah, boy. You'd think I would have focused on the numbers side of things a bit more than I did... but I've been GAS'ing so hard for these, money has been no object.
I always take that as a good sign. If I can become irrational about a brand, so can other folks... 'cause sometimes you have to become irrational to pull the trigger on a $3K bass :)
Damn you, Roscoe!!!

Know what else comes from Poquoson? Homeland Security Directors. I will let my brother know what you think about him. :D

Small world, one of my close friends is a DHS Director... but to clarify, that WAS in jest (I want to make sure I'm not ALWAYS on the list for the full body cavity search)...
:ninja:
;)
CrashClint 10-31-2008, 12:24 PM Of course it was in jest, not taken any other way.

RocketMusic 10-31-2008, 02:37 PM Clearly, our government is too large. EVERYONE knows a frickin' DHS Director!
On a happier note, I picked up another Roscoe no-home. I really need to send a thank you card to the two dealers who couldn't take these basses. :D
This one is another LG-3005 (http://www.rocketmusic.net/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=2837), this time a Box Elder Burl top and a Cocobolo fretboard.
http://www.rocketmusic.net/images/2837.jpg
Both basses should be here on Tueday next week, they were slightly delayed at Roscoe HQ. You have no idea how badly that is KILLING me right now. A whole weekend MORE to wait...
I'm so giddy over Roscoe that I spent my morning listing all of the Roscoes that I have on order (http://www.rocketmusic.net/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&category=ROSB&keywords=all)... I can't wait for those "Coming Soon" signs to turn into real pictures. "Hey, Gard! Is it done yet? ... is it done yet?.... is it done yet?"
CrashClint 10-31-2008, 02:51 PM That Buckeye Burl LG is flat SIC!
http://www.rocketmusic.net/images/2832.jpg
Ryan L. 10-31-2008, 03:14 PM I'll be very interested to see the SKB3005 when it gets done. The specs on that one are *very* close to what I'd order (only off by a millimeter here and there, and an inch somewhere else:p;)).
RocketMusic 10-31-2008, 03:20 PM I'm just hoping the Buckeye one sells before Christmas... otherwise, it might be going home with me in January
That's how I got my Warwick Thumb NT 5... it hung around and hung around, talked to me every day ("buy me! buy me!"). Three months later, I caved.
That's the ONLY downside to my job, sometime's I'm my own best customer. Don't tell my wife! :hiding:
Hey Gary, I managed to light a fire under el jefe this afternoon and both basses are now Blacksburg-bound!
:)
Clint, Ryan (my stepson, not Ryan L! ;) ) and I are posting this from the front porch on my super-cool new iPhone while handing out Halloween candy - thanks man!!
:D

:
Sorta like a certain Streamer that was on your website did to me..............:smug:
I have a feeling that once you get it at your store, it might not have a chance to sell by X-mas, before you decide that it needs to go home with you.
CrashClint 10-31-2008, 10:05 PM Clint, Ryan (my stepson, not Ryan L! ;) ) and I are posting this from the front porch on my super-cool new iPhone while handing out Halloween candy - thanks man!!
:D
That's funny, I was answering PMs and surfing TB on my iPhone while Linda and I were sitting on our porch handing out candy. I hope you enjoy it, I sure love mine.
You can also hook it up to your wireless network or any other place that offers free wireless, it makes surfing a lot faster.
RocketMusic 11-01-2008, 09:15 AM Suh-weet! Thanks, Gard! Monday should be a fun day!
