I'm in a jazz band at school and for kind of an end of the year project, I have to transcribe a bass solo from a jazz song and play it for the instructor. I listen to some Jazz music, but not a ton, so I was just wondering if any of you know of any jazz songs that have a good bass solo that isn't too long and not too short which I could use for this project.

Thanks!

Donna Lee... lol

Something a bit different but how about "My Love is a Mountainside" by Diana Krall? The version I've heard is bass and vocals only and is awesome, does a bit of a solo (though moreso ad lib) at the beginning. Just putting it out there.

Blue Bossa is a classic first tune for those new to improv. There is an old CD with Milt Jackson, joe Pass, and the great Ray Brown on DB called The Big 3. They do Blue Bossa and Ray takes a nice solo not too long and lots to learn from it. I think you can get the cut off iTunes.
