Am I crazy, or is this the single worst recording of the bach cello suites in the history of the world?
I'm listening to them right now, and it's torture. Bad intonation, bad/non-existant phrasing, etc.
I can play the Bourees from the 3rd suite better.

Anyone else have this recording and agree with me? Or am I missing something?

I have this recording, and I must agree the intonation is quite painful in some spots.
Nothing a few pints of german beer wouldn't fix.

I bought a LP of Gerd Reinke some 12 years ago, featuring bass and piano.
Interesting for us to know the works of Harald Genzmer, but for the rest he doesnīt deserve
our instrument.

Definitely the kind of bassists we donīt need.
The cover photo shows him playing the bass:
a joke !

Italian Mario Ricciutti is another interesting case...

I've only heard the Reinke Bach CD. It was one of the most awful things I'd subjected my ears to. Another one to stay away from is Ortiz Monta-somthing or other. It is in the Lemur catalog. That could very well be the worst bass CD I've ever heard.

Other Reinke CDs are the same way, so don't be fooled into thinking it was only the Bach.
