I was just wondering how hard is it to get into UNT, and if I wanted to study jazz would I have to study double bass at the university?

Thanks for your interest in the University of North Texas. Jazz bass applicants to UNT typlically are good jazz players. They have some experience with various styles of jazz, can improvise bass lines and solo some over chord changes. They can read chord charts and written notes. They can play the blues. They often have experience in school or community big bands. Above all they show talent and have the desire to PLAY JAZZ. Both classical and jazz lessons are required on the double bass at UNT. For complete information on what is required for live admission auditions and DVD's please go to www.jazz.unt.edu and click on admission auditions then jazz bass. Anyone is welcome to email me directly at UNT with specific UNT related questions at: lynn.seaton@unt.edu .
