Welcome to the new TAB forum! Use this forum for all your TAB requests, questions, etc. Do NOT use it to post anti-tab material or slams, as this type of post will not be tolerated, and will be treated as a rule violation by the moderators.
Enjoy!

congrats

Heheh.. Ok.. Now just to second what Paul already said.. very low tollerance to flaming / bashing tablature related stuff.
It is allowed to criticise a certain tab ofcourse, if you feel the tab is incorrect. But please, don't go starting arguements like " yeah but tabz suck " and stuff like that.
If you don't like tablature, don't go to the tablature forum.. it is very easy :)
peace,
AltecJ 06-14-2002, 05:38 PM I've thrice it...
Syrinx 026 06-14-2002, 06:34 PM well, we broke down and got a tab forum. a very good call- this should take a lot of weight off the GI mods!

You CAN. I don't have a problem with it if the other mods don't, but this is a "Tablature" forum. Whether or not someone that browses the "Tab" forum or not will be able to help you; that is a different matter. ;) You would probably be better off asking in GI.
ScJaxx 06-14-2002, 11:21 PM ok ill be ninth post:D
good luck on the new forums, i might stop in here from time to time. mainly for the new Papa Roach CD.
June 18th people:D
Hategear 06-14-2002, 11:31 PM My two-cents: as far as I am concerned, there will be a zero-tolerance policy on tab-bashing and hijacking of tab-related threads (OT threads and posts belong in OT).
When requesting tabs, I'd appreciate it if you looked for your tabs here (http://www.talkbass.com/tab/tabview.php?action=home) first. If your tab is not posted here (http://www.talkbass.com/tab/tabview.php?action=home), or the tab that is posted is incorrect, then post a request for it (or ask for a correction).
If you notice that a tab is incorrect, feel free to offer corrections and/or alternate tab. Try to do it nicely (creative criticism vs. just plain criticism).
You can ask for standard notation here, but as SuperDuck stated, you'll probably get more of a response in GI (I don't expect many "big names" in this room -- if you know what I mean).
Lastly, I would appreciate it if someone does get bashed for using/asking for tablature, that said individual not "fire back," but instead let the mods do their jobs.
:) Thank you for your support! :)
EDIT: This forum was put together so that people could ask for tabs that they are having trouble finding. They are supposed to be able to come in here and ask for said tab(s) without being criticized and critiqued for it by the self-proclaimed members of the Tabevil Clan. If you aren't interested in helping someone with their tab request, don't bother responding to their thread! Condemning someone for asking for tab (regardless of their reason for wanting said tab) will not be tolerated in here!
Also, it may be a good idea to post the name of the song that you are searching for in your thread title. I can almost GWARantee that simply asking for "tabs" isn't going to be very effective.

jazzbo 06-16-2002, 01:15 AM Okay, I'm not saying this is every going to happen, and I'm not trying to be annoying, I just seriously want to know. Let's say someone posts:
"Say, does anyone have the tab {insert song here}? I've looked everywhere and can't find it."
Can I respond with:
"Hi {whomever}. I don't have tab for that song, but it's a pretty straight forward song. It's in G and the chords are G7 / C7 / D7 / G7. It just repeats the whole song. If you can't find the tabs, I encourage you to try to work it out by ear, as that may help you in the future if you're looking to learn a song and can't the find the tabs. Good luck."
So, is that okay? Seriously.

SuperDuck 06-16-2002, 01:14 PM Jazzbo-
What we're trying to avoid here is arguments, flame wars, and general unpleasantness. The reason Paul created the Tab forum was to decrease the number of argumentative threads in GI. As far as I know, both camps are happy about this because the Tab people don't want to be harassed by Tabevil, and Tabevil doesn't want to wade through tab requests in GI. Insulting or derogatory comments end up being made, and everyone leaves pissed.
I realize that the members of Tabevil, including yourself, want to help people in furthering their musical education. That's a wonderful thing, and I admire you all for it. However, you have to realize that some people don't want your help.
Since TalkBass is about helping people, and educating, however, you can try to help the posters in any way you see fit. HOWEVER, these threads will be closely monitored, and if they say they don't want your help, just back off. You tried, and that's great, but if it's obvious that they aren't immediate converts, no good will arise from the situation.
It's been stated before, but it needs to be stated again. There will be little to no tolerance regarding anti-tab sentiments in this forum. The fence has been set up, as per request of both parties. No sense throwing water balloons at your neighbors when all they want is to be left alone.
Hategear 06-16-2002, 06:06 PM I agree with everything that SuperDuck just said. With that in mind, here's how I would like to see a sitch like Jazzbo described handled:
TabTalkBasser: "Say, does anyone have the tab for ___________? I've looked everywhere and can't find it."
Jazzbo: "Hi, TabTalkBasser! I don't have tab for that song, but it's a pretty straight forward song. It's in G and the chords are G7 / C7 / D7 / G7. It just repeats the whole song. Good luck."
ChaosGwar 06-17-2002, 07:02 AM Hategear, AllodoX, and Superduck,
Congrats on your new moderator positions!
Thats all I have to say. :D
You can all go about your regularly scheduled tab requests.:D

Matt Till 07-27-2002, 01:22 AM I don't want to rain on any parades but is it just me, or is this forum pointless. I mean, sure, we now know what songs people want tabbed but... who's gonna tab them? I mean seriously look at the posts and then look at the people who have got a tab and went on their merry way. The only purpose I see this forum serving is that it gets the tab requests in their only little place and out of everyone elses hai... wa... ho hoooo, brilliant guys, keep up the good work. ;)

If you don't like the forum, don't bother looking, and don't bother posting. It's not that hard. If it's really that "pointless" it won't be hard to ingore.
It amazes me how many people think they have a point to prove, and decide the tab forum is the place to do it. Nobody's impressed, and nobody cares.
Matt Till 07-28-2002, 03:52 PM Ouch SuperDuck... very Ouch. You know is it at all possible that you don't instantly assume that I'm some anti-tab blahbiddy bah? I was just joking about the whole "This is where they put the post that no one reads." For your info, I USE tabs, there I said it. I would have no right to "tab bash" and personally find it stupid. Personally, when this forum started, my eyes brightened up and I smiled the smile of a thousand smiles, but I am finding my dreams being crushed. I seriously wished this forum the best of luck... but no dice. MY POINT that I'm obviously making just to impress you is unless some brave soul wants to venture through the forums and assist these people in figuring out their songs. I'm crossing my fingers that someone does, I would but... I'm too lazy and some of the songs are too hard and... I'm not nice.

I started a thread in OT saying more or less exactly the same thing as this, but I was greeted with derision from a lot of people - it seems to be completely obvious and apparent to me, but then some people take it as personal criticism, when all you are doing is pointing out where it falls down logically. :(

This assumes someone comes here, does or does not find a tab, never looks anywhere else on the site and leaves. That might qualify as brilliant too;)
Who's gonna tab them? Lots of people, with varying degrees of accuracy, from possibly lots of other locations. I can easily see someone requesting a tab here and receiving it from someone who got their copy from somewhere other than TB.
Ya think? Where's the breakdown?

I think that what Matt means is that we aren't running aTab request service here - which is what it may "look like" to some newbies.
So - we haven't got dedicated Tabbers who are just waiting for somebody to post a request and will then go away to a room and work it out for them!
I'm sure I will see pigs fly before that happens!! :D

I agree with this entirely and am very happy to help anybody where I can and back off if they don't want it.
I do most strongly object to being told where I can and can't go in a forum that I am paying to support.
I am happy to follow sensible guidlines but nobody is going to take away my sense of humour and I don't think this was paul's or any of the moderators intention when writing any of the guidelines.

Bruce Lindfield 09-03-2002, 10:56 AM There is no mention of "sense of humour" in any of the guidelines - I challenge you to find any reference or mention!
Brad Johnson 09-03-2002, 10:58 AM Look at my response. It contains a direct quote and my response to that direct quote. The quote is clearly not what the mod said, it's what you said. Duh.
How someone cannot see that is pretty obvious... they don't want to.
Bruce Lindfield 09-03-2002, 11:08 AM Well I think the point is that I will continue to follow the guidleines as I see it and will continue to post where I want, as long as I do so.

If I had a free and legal way to access the music, I might be inclined to follow Gunnar's suggestion from time to time. So, if you're looking for a tab AND you know samples can be found online (even if just, for example, the 30 second preview at amazon.com) that might help you get more help...

I use a very nice free and illegal way to access music, download it from KazaaLite. Or copy disks I get from the library. Whatever works for you. :)
