Let me start by apologizing if this has been discussed elsewhere.
I'm a 60 year old bass player with 50 years of experience playing bass and guitar but always looking for new ideas and new technology to help me become a better bass player.
Where can I find a CD or on-line software that has a 4 or 5 piece band without a bass track that will allow me to develop and practice new bass lines while playing along with the CD.
I'm primarily interested in 12 bar blues, 50's/60s rock and roll, country-western and old standards.
Thank you,
Tony

I use Band in the Box and it does the trick. It's a bit of an eyesore to look at which can make things a little confusing at first. But read the instructions and you should be ok. Basically you just enter the chords and tempo for any song you'd like to practice, select the music style, and then select your instruments. Hit play and you can jam along. There are many other features which I don't really use. Of course it's no substitute for a real band but it's better than nothing. I use it for practicing standards.

I've come to the bass from an electronic music approach, and therefore use Ableton with all the loops and midi clips I already have.
Works really well for me because I can change the tempo of anything, mute/solo things and also helps in terms of how a bass sits into a track structure.
